Nikon 8700 slave flash question

I know this isn't the right forum, but I know people here are both knowledgeable and friendly. I have a question about slave flashes for use with my nikon 8700. Here is what I posted elswhere on the net any suggestions would be helpful:

I have a nikon 8700 and a couple of slave triggers (plus 2 vivitar 283's. I don't want to buy a IR transmitter or a SB series flash for it. I was told that I could use developed slide film as a way to block visable light (from the 8700 pop up flash) and still trigger the slave flashes. I am sure it will work, but I threw away all my ruined slides, my question is will negative film work also or something else?

If there is nothing else I can find some slide film, I just wanted to try it today. Thanks, by the way my favorite cheap RF is the Minolta 7SII

Do you have any old remote controls sitting around? How about the little black/red windows over the IR transmitters in them. Break them out and make a mask to fit over the Slave's Sensor.

Also: a Kodak Wratten 88 filter would work; but chances are few people have them...

LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS!
