Trying out a Zorki

Hello all,

I'm trying out a Zorki I got recently from "asterik" on the auction site. The Jupiter 8 lens had some fungus. I was able to unscrew the back retainer and clean it with rubbing alcohol. There are a few big 'bubbles' in the glass and surface scratches. But the results seem okay. The body works fine. Maybe it deserves a better-condition lens?

I tried everything different with these pics - Walgreen film (rebranded Agfa 200 ISO), Walgreen develop & scan, Jupiter 8 lens. Not my usual Fuji film, CV lens, semi-pro lab. So it looks a little grainier to me but I don't know why, I changed too many things at once!!! Oh well, someday I'll do a scientific comparison..

If you don't mind, here's another example. I'm wondering about the quality of the Walgreen processing & the lens.. oh and the brand-X Agfa film

Last one! Check out the grain in the sky. Doesn't it seem a little excessive for 200 speed film? Could it be the lens or more likely the lab?

The "grain" could also be the combination of the film and your scanner.

I'm not quite certain what you're looking for but I see plenty of detail and subtle colors in those shots which lead me to believe that the Walgreen film/processing you paid for was worth it. I see detail in the whites that could easily have been lost and the colors seem quite natural too.

I prefer "natural" colors that aren't saturated to the n'th degree so the Agfa film that Walgreen chose to rebadge pleases me.

Oh...... the Jupiter-8 lens seems to be very good as well. There's nothing wrong with the sharpness of it. I'd say you got your money's worth.

Yes Michael, I'd say they look nice ! Specially like the second one and your Jupiter seems tack sharp !

As for the grain, Walker said it, could be too many things but I'd discard the lens so seems you should do more tests with your new outfit and delight us with more images !
