Thumbs up Saw a Leica CL today ...

I work part time at a used bookstore and in a conversation Monday with a customer, I learned he has an older Hasselblad kit he wishes to sell. I offered to help him find out what it's worth and get it sold. Probably through ebay or KEH. Turns out he's got a '68 500C with a 12 and a 16 shot (superslide) magazines, 2.8/80, 4/150 and 5.6/250 lens and a beautiful fitted grey pigskin leather hardcase. KEH says it depends on the condition and if the shutters are accurate but it's about $1200 or more from them. It's in really excellent shape and I'm thinking he might do better trying to move the whole set on the bay. Thoughts? It looks extreamly clean to me - KEH Ex at minimum and maybe even thier Ex+.

He also has a Leica Leicina Special Super-8 movie camera - he says it was never used and it looks like it. The camera and 1.8/10mm lens are still in thier orinial boxes looking like new. Anyone here do Super-8?

Other than a Kodak Brownie #2 box camera and a Kodak Folder #3, his only other bit that he wants to sell is a Leica CL with 40/2 Summicron with collapsible rubber shade and 90/4 Tele-Elmar as well. I've never actually handled a Leica before. It's a nice feel - almost as good a mechanical feel as a Contax, but much more compact (for some funny reason ). In beautiful condition, at least ot my eyes...

He hinted that if I could get him a good enough price for the Hassy, he might give me the CL, but given what I'm seeing out on net, the CL is gonna be a big chunk of the value in what he wants to sell - KEH says $500 for the CL and the 40 and ebay is about the same from what I've seen. If I had a the money for a fair price, I'd certainly be tempted.

If anyone here is interested in making an offer on any of these items, please PM me and I'll get you in touch with the gentleman.

William

Yes it does suck being broke, though I was hoping when reading your post that he had a 50mm CT* lens.

I think that you may be able to do better on ebay selling the Hassey kit in three parts. Sell the basic kit, body, backs and 80mm lens, and then sell the 150mm and 250mm items separately. Assuming they are older they may fetch about $400 to $500 each alone, and the kit anywhere from $500 to $700 depending on condition and who is shopping. If you can shoot a few rolls with the old girl and confirm she works well the items may sell for more. Be sure to only change lenses when the shutter and body are are cocked, if you don't she will jam, and then your in a little trouble.

A Leica Leicina Special,... hrmmm. Too bad I don't shoot much Super-8 anymore. That's a really nice camera. Film is just really expensive. About $7 a minute processed last time I used it. So a ten minute movie can get pricey after editing.
