monthly photo projects?
what do you think about a monthly photo project?
all voluntary of course.
if it's ok with jorge, this is how i see it working-
everyone interested can pm me with 'topics' or ideas for each month. i will go over them and choose one for every month of the year.
we can either (1) post all at once and have a monthly reminder or (2) i can post each new topic at the beginning of a new month.
why pm me?
to keep the topics top secret so we each have the same opportunity to shoot from day 1 together, that's provided we choose #2 from above.
for me, i can stay out of the projects or you will have to trust me that i'm not 'shooting' ahead of schedule.
or
if anyone has other ideas on how this might work, let's discuss it!!
i need some motivation to shoot more & thought this might help me & also just to provide some fun and more involvement in the forum for all.
let me know!!!!
joe

Sounds like a great idea and you should definetively not exempt yourself from shooting.
Maybe you could sweet-talk Jorge into putting the monthly 'winning' photo on the front-page as well.

"Winning" photo? Should entries be judged? Or voted upon?

Hmm....;
a) No judging or voting at all and just a random photo representing the month, or
b) a secret jury that selects a winner, or
c) all photos are posted and some sort of point system elects a winner.
Since there is still not a high number of active users here that may rule out option b and since option c requires some development it may be that 'a' is the only option.
Just thinking out loud really :-)

I vote for the random photo idea. I am not reading here that this is intended to be a contest, so my opinion is that we just enjoy eachother's work.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I assume you mean photos to be restricted to RF, or is anything open?

let's go !
Joe, so you would be gathering project ideas until January 2004 and the project will start then ?
I think starting with each new month will be more natural, the bad side is we'll have to wait until then
Good to choose random pictures, any limit to the number of pictures from the same member in a project ?

oscar,
yes, i was thinking about starting in the new year.
i think unlimited photos, at first anyway.
if it really takes off then maybe we could look at a limit.
also, i doubt it need be limited to rf cameras but that would be a logical place to start considering the nature of our forum.
so this sounds like a go - start sending me your ideas for monthly topics!!

Sounds good to me. You should use the calendar feature which lets you schedule things such as this.

I am in! Great to be in a project that everyone could participate. I would think a random selection of the photos posted would encourage everyone. No winners or losers.

I agree on the randomness... or, better yet, Joe can start a thread on which we download and critique the assigned shots. That way we all see what we're doing.

This sounds exciting. And I like not have to feel constrained by trying to "win" something. Sharing seems so much more appealing!
Congratulations to all for coming up with this concept.

update-
you guys have sent in about 23 separate ideas so far!
jorge suggested we use the calendar feature and as soon as i figure out how to actually use it i can decide better.
someone also mentioned that maybe i could start a thread each month so we can all post together - no problem, i think that should work.
unless jorge wants to create another section for projects. we could use it for this monthly feature and perhaps for our own special projects, that would be cool! (i apologize for the 60's lingo)
so keep those ideas flowing so we have a really big pool to choose from.

Up to you now Joe to take some 'executive decisions' on what the topics should be and kick it off :-)
Also very excited - will be fun!
(And I honestly belive that this should be a 'formal' part of the site as I think it definetively is a reason people would join - and stay).
(I was thinking...maybe you can post the chosen topic in the NEWS forum so that it has nice visibility and then do the same with the random photo of the month? :-))

new years day!
i will soon pick 12 topics for the next 12 months.
either on the last day of the previous month or the first day of the month i will post the topic for the month.
we can use that thread to post our photos.
i will contact jorge to see if he wants to create a 'photo of the month' section for us.
if you have ideas there is still lots of time to send them along.
