Panthermic 777 in small tanks?

Greetings,

After four years of shooting C41 B&W I've decided to go back to developing my own film. I've been away from the darkroom for over 10 years. My previous experience is with D76 1 to 1 and Rodinal with 400 speed films, usually TRI-X but sometimes ORWO NP-27 and Ilford HP5.

Back then I always had various contrast issues, but was able to work around it during printing. For now I still won't have darkroom access so I'll be scanning my 35mm and 120 negs.

Anyway, I've been wondering about the old Panthermic 777 developer. From what I gather it was intended for use in large tanks for dip/dunk type processing. Also, from what I read it helps provide terrific latitude. Has anyone out there had experience with this stuff in small tanks for normal roll film inversion agitation?

Could be, but I tend to doubt it - 777 has become the stuff of myth and legend. I have only heard of it myself, never used it.

I process my own B&W and scan it myself - no darkroom coupled with no desire to print optically. I can send my scanned files out and have them printed afer doing my electronic darkroom work on my PC. No disrespect meant for those who still do it in the dark - just a personal choice.

Harvey's 777 is supposedly rediscovered and available at the Frugal Photographer:

I don't know what its characteristics are now.

Hey Bill,

That is where I found 777 listed for sale. I followed links from there and did some other searching on the 'net but couldn't find anything for developing in small tanks other than what is in the PDF from the Frugal Photographer site. Kinda sketchy.

I hope to get back into printing with an enlarger some day. Right now we're in a rental unit but hope to have a house again within a couple of years. I have two enlargers, a 4x5 Omega D that I used to use and a small no-name 35mm enlarger.

I've had some prints made from digital files....big TIFF files and I've come to the conclusion that traditional fibre based paper is the way to go for me. What I'd like is a digital print head for an optical enlarger so that I can do the tweaking in Photoshop then print on fibre paper with the enlarger.....

I've heard you can get a digital head for some 20,000 Euro

But here is somebody who does make fibre based prints from digital files.

Thanks for the link. Price is not bad for the service, but I'm wondering about shipping cost back to the USA. Now I know what to look for, maybe I can find a service in the USA.
