Further to Nikkor 35/2.5 LTM Test shot

After a 3 days vacation, I am back this morning. And I never thought my former post of this lens would arise intensive arguments.

First of all, my intention of this post is to share my experience of this lens. In the past I have learned lens character before I buy any lens from useful hints on the internet from other users. I hope this time I could do sth. for others in return.

Secondly, after developing the film, this lens gives me a different feelings from my summar - the darness is not dark. This may come from several reasons. Maybe it is due to my using a cheap Chinese Luck ISO100 film. Or due to over exposer, or the develop process...

For example, In this photo: http://www.fotop.net/ericzhu/nikkor35mmltm/Trees , I have to dodge the trunk to make it a little darker.

This is shot near evening, and it is a little overcast day.

Nevertheless, Let's put aside the war of leica and nikkor, the arguments about the optics quality. The best lens is the one giving you enjoyment.

Pls. forgive my judegment of this lens, which may be not right with such a short time test. I would shoot more later.

Let's avoid conflict and war and live in peace. We have seen enough suffers.

I assume you used a Leica M series to test the lens and thats why you posted the thread here. Its actually an "Optics" remark(IMHO).
Your original post was inconclusive,depending on one's view it could go either way! Some members said tonal range was more impotant than contrast....will you explain your views?
Was it good enough? Did it pass the test? we have already established what the value of one, was it worth it?

Actually I use it with my iiif. This is my only 35mm lens for screw mount leica. I use summar on another leica ii (the voiglander 35mm viewfinder couldn't mount on leica II, but perfect on leica IIIf). Now, I enjoy more with my leica ii than iiif, m3 or MP. The shutter sound of II is like a bird singing.

As for this lens, I haven't found the right feeling. But personally I think tonal range is more precious than contrast. Contrast could be adjustable with software such as photoshop.

And my lens is a little inconvenient when using. While adjusting the aperture, the lens barrel rotates alongwith, which changes focus point. That means the lens must be locked before changing the aperture.

I think the lens is worth $200 for leica screw mount. I am a little busy recently, I would shoot more and let the picture speaks.

Or as it was in the old days, the aperture should be set before....

Wisdom indeed! I'm sorry your earlier thread got hijacked.

With Nikkor lenses (and Soviet lenses) I meter and set the aperture first, then focus.

With a little flexible finterwork, you can usually find a way to hold the lens focus-barrel in place while adjusting the aperture.

Thanks for your support of nikkor lens. I am also a nikkor SLR user before I start to change to leica. I have D100, FM2, AIS and AF lenses. I do think nikkor lens is good enough.
