many thanks to mango for taking on this challenge and relieving my tired old brain from having to come up with monthly ideas.

i think this may help invigorate many who want to shoot more.

mango, refresh my old noggin, the purpose of linking to a gallery etc is...?

oh, and good luck manny!!

I think think this is a great idea, not only will we participate in the monthly theme, but eventually we will be the one calling the shots as the person who's photo is chosen as the best representation of the theme will be the Salon Boss for the next month.

Thanks for taking this on ManGo.

While I prefer the spontaneity of W/NW, as well as its non-judgemental nature, I will watch your Salon with interest to see how it goes.

Sounds fun. I never got it together to post to the previous monthly themes, so just managing to post in this one will be a "new beginning" for me. Great idea for passing on the work to a new person each month.

Great idea but still I'm wondering about this thread's visibility. The monthly theme project also disappeared into oblivion because it's not fixed on the RFF home page. After a while no-one can find it unless they deliberatedly go to the forums list.

I'd say, for the sake of visibility, keep this thread (and the upcoming PAM threads) fixed on the RFF front page.

heh great initiative ManGo!

And I have a in image processed this month that fits my interpretation of the "New Beginning" theme.

The concept is also good get out and shoot motivation for future months.

Great idea, ManGo. This is mainly why I joined this forum- to be able to shoot "assignments" with others, and then compare and learn from the process.

Manny,

Your idea is brilliant, the subject matter as well works really well as does the change in award decider. A new beginning.... now to take some shots of... hmm ah yes... maybe not.

Sorry just thinking out loud, feel free to carry on whilst I ponder some images for this one.

A new beginning

OK. Here's my entry.

Why?:

My Dad passed away 18 months ago, suffering a massive stroke 2 days after he was offically cleared of cancer after a 6 month battle. He never got to meet his grandson. But our son Benjamin has bought us so much joy and helped us to realise that with every ending there's a new beginning...

I have an idea for this (a brilliant idea no doubt!), but unfortunately I'll need a big miracle to make it happen... Anyone know their way around the German gov't bureacracy?

Student Photo Exibit

Last week I was innocently printing some photos on campus when I was suddenly conscripted by a photography class teacher to hang a student exhibit in our campus gallery. I went back the next day with my Bessa R and the 50mm Nokton loaded with ERA (100 ASA film) and I took a couple photos. It occurred to me that for many photographers this is in a sense a beginning. This is where the novice photographer gets 'outed' to their peers.

Bessa R 50mm Nokton ERA film

(If the photo looks grainy it's not the fault of the film. I was a little careless in developing it.)

Definitely interested but a bit uninspired this month... I can only offer some spring sunshine and perhaps a vague reference to new shoots and old roots.

So come on guys, you can do better than me I know!

Well, I'm new to this small town in the South Coast of NSW - relocating due to job commitment. Sunday morning bike ride and shooting ritual.

Technical detail if you insist ManGo:
M3 - Lux 50/1.4 - Agfa Scala - Ilford DDX 1+4 9mins. I left my thermometer in Melbourne but I'm sure water temperature was 23°C

Hi ManGo

Thanks for introducing this Salon concept for RFF and thank you for seeing it through and encouraging us with your comments. Interesting to see the different interpretations of the theme, and to read your considered thoughts as well.

Congratulations on an evocative image Jeff - I will look forward to your theme for the merry month of May!
