Any idea what this is?

Saw this at the Goodwill auction site. They have it listed as a "Canon Rangefinder Accessory" or something like that. Thought someone here might be interested in it:

Looks like a clumsy adaptation of a flash bracket to fit a Canon rangefinder with an offset tripod mount. Possibly for a Canon P or something ilke that?

It looks like it would probably fit my P... but I can't think of a really good use for it!

Probably the camera holder for an early Canonflex SLR, many had an R in the model name. Probably a variant for a long telephoto lens. Doesn't go all the way across the bottom because those cameras continued Canon's odd obsession with bottom-wind cameras.

The handle part is just a generic flash handle bracket. I have the exact one, its recent, but certainly aftermarket "3rd party" manufacture)
