is there a 40mm LTM lens around???

just wondering, is there a 40mm lens that is good bang for buck?

decent to good optics that wont blow a hold in the pocket?

40mm in LTM? Nope. (edit added: not to my knowledge.)

The closest you'll find in a high bang for the buck lens wider than 50mm is a J12 which is a 35mm lens, but it won't fit all cameras because of its bulbous rear element.

Wasn't there an LTM Rokkor 40mm? Someone here posted a heads up for one up for auction in the last 2 weeks, or was it the 45....

There's a 45/2.8 Rokkor for the old Minolta LTM cameras, they *sometimes* can be had cheap, the last ones I bid on I lost for a lot of money. Performance wise I can't really speak of (haven't tried or seen anything)

Then there's the Rollei Sonnar 40/2.8, seems to be a very good lens but not easy to have cheap.

And also a very rare Olympus 40/2.8 (I think), which usually goes for an arm and a leg.

I was in the same position as you some months ago, and ended giving up and getting a M mount camera and a 40/2 Summicron

Sure. It's the 40/2.8 Rollei Sonnar HFT. Was available new from Rollei/CV in LTM (consitent with the CV philosophy in most of their current rf lenses) and it also included the Leica M adaptor ring to boot. I normally use it on my Minolta CLE. Very sharp and contrasty and compares favorably with other modern 40's but with that Zeiss fingerprint similar to the Rollei 35 S/SE or the Contax T/T2.

Use a 50. Back up three paces. Shazam - a 40mm.
