This is Ruff, three years ago. Now he's long and lean: to the distress of his playmates, he's got the reach on them.

Ben

He's seven or eight years old, American shorthair and spoiled to death. He's cold but he won't give up the enclosed porch we have in the back.

Let me guess... Ruff is the one on the right side, am I correct?

Hi Francisco, thanks for asking! The one on the right observing us is Scooter, ready to scoot if necessary. The larger longer-haired white one in back is Squeeks. Long-limbed Ruff is stretched out in the foreground.

We found these three and their mother living in the crawl space under one wing of the building. The mother was easy to catch, but the kittens were not "socialized" with human contact.

We found a good home for Mom, and Ruff came quickly to trust us, but the girls were hard to catch and even after several years now still cannot be touched at will. Only when it's THEIR idea. Wimmin... :-)

Ruff is a pretty easy-going guy; his short-haired sister Scooter has the same coloring and is quite assertive. Big luscious blonde Squeeks has accepted a low position in the pecking order.

I have to admit both photos above were shot by my wife with her Nikon Coolpix digital "swivel" camera.

To make up for that, here's my recent cropped low-light shot with Leica M2 and new VC 75mm Heliar. She's our youngest, Cinnamon, a stray adopted last Spring who upset the social order. She chases Squeeks wanting to play, is in turn intimidated by Scooter, has our older male cautious, and is a good wrestling buddy for Ruff. But she's short 'n stubby, so Ruff's frustratingly long reach is a challenge to overcome through subterfuge. Interesting to watch.

Pic Guy, the thought crossed my mind... like "Watch the Bokeh, Benkeh!"

Doug, fascinating story, fascinating life you lead, surrounded with cats! I use to be a very intense dog person. Both of us, my wife and I! How did we get to have a cat? My fault: I started liking the idea, we got a stray who had adopted my in-laws but let them pass him to us, he lived for 6 weeks until a heart attack felled him. Then, we got Ben, who is prone to urinary tract infections, not too affectionate since his last illness, but a wonderfully patient cat who won't beg for scraps and likes to be with you in the same room. Sure, you can pet him... but only for a while. He has a dark side too; see here

Francisco, that is quite an expression on Ben, there! I suspect you caught him in mid-yawn. :-)

Robert, in repeated visits to this thread, I keep stopping to look at your LuLu picture. And admire it. Seems to have a smooth glow to it somehow; the sea and sky merge into a silvery unified world. Could you say something about its making?

Doug, one can tell you live among cats. Yes, he was yawning.

BTW, I agree with you about Robert's shot. Some info on its making would be nice... Can we get it? Thanks!!

Here's my dog. Took this about a month ago -- he's 13 or 14 ... sort of lost track.

We got him from a colleague in 1992. It was her neighbor's dog, and they kept putting him outside during the winter.
