Original Voigtlaender 5cm Nokton

Being entirely ignorant about this- is the original 5cm Nokton well regarded for its optical qualities or is it expensive cos it's rare, or for both these reasons?

David

Sub-question- would you bid on this one- 7597045570 - & get it repaired?

I don't know, are there parts available to fix it?

At the time Voigtlander was owned by Zeiss and the Nokton was slated to replace the Sonnar as the standard lens for the next Contax RF camera, the one that never was.

I have seen some images posted on the internet taken with the old Nockton, they were very sharp, but had real funky bokah if you are into that stuff. If I am remembering correctly it was a much different image quality wise than that from a Sonnar.

It is highly, and rightfully, regarded for its optical properties.

It is one of the sharpest lenses of the '50's.

It is normally found on the highly-quirky, but fun-to-use, Voigtlander Prominent camera.

It is very rare in LTM. Adapters can be found for $300 or so to use a Prominent mount lens on an LTM camera. You can also get an adapter to use it on Nikon S-Mount and COntax RF mount cameras. The Prominent, an RF leaf-shutter camera, uses a lens board for focus and the lens comes off. The Nokton, in native mount, does not have a helical and has a large back-focus to accommodate the leaflet shutter.

The most inexpensive way to use this lens is to buy a Prominent with the Nokton for ~$300. Buy an adapter if you really like the lens and do not like the camera.
