Finally, the right tools!

Well, I finally got my pair of spanner wrenches (bought from Micro-Tools Germany)...
I had to pay more taxes and dues than what I paid to Micro-Tools for the set, but that's another story

Anyway, I was finally able to adjust my Jupiter 12 in Kiev/Contax mount.
It was mis-focusing - focus on photos was closer than "aimed". It's a nice lens, good contrast, and I swore I'd try to fix the problem.
With the aid of those spanners, I did some adjustment, but was nonetheless forced to use thin paper shims on the back element.
It has a large protruding back element, which simply unscrews (at least in the Kiev mount version). With the aid of some "ground glass" (actually a piece of clear plastic with some frosted tape on the side facing the lens) and a handy loupe-microscope gadget, I was able to get the RF and the actual picture on the ground glass to agree after adding a thin paper "ring", so that the back element doesn't screw in all the way.
I used clear plastic + frosted tape because the real ground glass was too coarse.
Anyway, here's the photo of spanners and the lens.
Now I'll be able to work on the lenses, too, without fear of scratches, slippings, etc...
The spanners look and feel OK - it was the cheaper "economy" set, one with slotted and one with pointed tips.

looks good denis.
as with most things, having the 'proper' tools makes the job so much easier.

I picked up the 3 pack of lens spanners a while ago and they're worth it.

Not "tools of the inquisition"... "tools of the inquisitive mind"

I too bought the set of 3 spanners from Micro-Tools. Well worth the $40. Micro-Tools has just about everything you need for camera repair.

Here's the link:

Those of you with the Micro-Tools spanners, how do they feel as far as quality? Are they fairly rigid? Is the fit and finish okay?

I find it odd that the three piece set is $35 and the two piece set is $39.

I've been thinking of getting the three piece economy set myself. I have an old Minolta A2 that I'd like to take apart and see what I can do with.

I got mine form Micro-Tools as well. The 3 piece is not as nice as the 2 piece set. The 3 piece is fine for occasional work, but would not be my choice for "professional" use.

My Minolta A came with a sticky shutter, and took only a few minutes to get it open, clean the shutter, and it's working fine now.

I agree with Kin. The economy set is fine for the occasional use. For more serious use, buy the better or the best set.

I had the chance to test the spanner today - working on a friend's Yashica Lynx (bought this morning on a camera show). I used the pointed one to unscrew the wind lever - works just nice.
BTW, I saw a Canonet G3 QL 1.7 that went for about $50
I was too late, and I bought one from a fellow RFF-er a few days ago, anyway...

No, I got one from FrankS.
Eagery awaiting its arrival!
And I've bought (more precisely, I am buying) a CV Ultron 35/1.7 from another RFF member.... Now, THAT is a lens I'm waiting to try!!!

You know the worst part is that I have had to start going to different post offices to mail all the packages I have been sending out all over the world. So far, postage to New Zealand is the most expensive I have found. UPS prices were over $100 and they couldn't promise that the package would arrive in my lifetime. Apparently the big brown truck doesn't go down under too often. Needless to say, the USPS came to my rescue.
