Versions of Summitar

I ended up with two Summitars, both of which are very nice. I purchased a folding hood some time back for the V-groove one. The new one, which came as part of a package has the flat bottom groove.

Amazing the shade seems to work fine one either. It clips on tight and does not rotate freely .

Is there a different shade for both versions? Why would they change mounting?

700xxx is V-groove. 795xxx is flat bottom. Both are same cap size.

You will need to clarify this. Pictorial perhaps?

There are three versions of the hood mounting facilities. No groove, V groove, and flat-bottom (square) groove. There are matching hoods, screw-clamp, and two spring clamp verions.

Your square groove one probably also has modern F stops.

Both V and flat have modern stops 2-16. Both are coated. Both have round apertures.

I guess I`m lucky the shade fits both, or the V and flat are really not what I have although they are distinctly different. The one is about 3 or 4 times wider then the other and looking at the side so I can see a cross section, one is distinctly a V and the other has a wide flat bottom with slightly tapered sides.

Another Leica mystery !
