They are thinking ahead that if a Nikon Nut wins the Powerball they will go on an EBay buying spree.

Prices seem high, seller has poor feedback rating.

"Take at look at all the pictures. I have been collecting camera for over 20 years, this is the best one I have seen so far."

yeah, and I trust a guy who doesn't change any of the wording for any of his auctions...

Notice there haven't been any bids, and there's 12 hours left? Kinda like the one guy on ebay selling the "rare and beautiful" Leica IIIc with absolutly terrible chrome for the 5th time in a month for more than a nice one with a lens...

Don't worry about it.

I've lost track, but a poor feedback rating on Ebolay would be what--98.7%?

Their feedback thing is the dumbest, most pointless thing I've ever seen; well, except
maybe for the exploding Pinto gas tanks.

There's no shortage of people asking way too much money for Nikon RF gear, then receiving no bids. Prices seem to have peaked not long after the tech-stock bubble and have been relentlessly rational as of late. The really exotic stuff is so rare that it's hard to even figure out a fair-market price for it.

I've been vocal about the ever-higher prices that Leica screw-mount bodies have been bringing. Just ask Brian how often I've mentioned it to him! But, it's true. Really sad bodies are bringing $150 and more; sometimes a lot more. I guess people just haven't heard that film is dead.

There was a fellow last week, posting a Nikon S2 with a 35mm lens and asking for $8,500. I watched that auction die a long, sad death... while the guy got pelted with questions about his skills to rate a camera that had been sitting on a shelf for over 20 years as good and collectible.

BTW, the guy had some nerve to reply.

Needless to say, it went unsold. He claimed to have found a buyer in the web, but isn't that a telling detail that his buyer didn't "buy" the camera on eBay?

Greed ain't good...

the lens cap for 1.1

I just sold a broken one had a crack in it for $300 US, at a show.

SO no the price is not outragous to a RF nikon collector WHO NEED IT to COMPLETE an item.

And just when you buy the $500 cap to finally, after 45 years, complete your collection, some joker at Nikon starts cranking out $7,000 camera bodies. So the collection is no longer complete...

I only added for Nikon M w Sync because I found it for $30 with the lens...Last year.

Same place as I found the M. I keep going by there! So that lens cap is going for more than The M, M Sync, MIOJ case, 50' block 5cm/1.4, and Sonnar 5cm/2 in my collection.

How's this for insane price? Not insane at all...well worth every penny.
I guess if you pay $2000 for the shade you will pay $500 more for the case for it!!

No worse than a Leica MP with a Noctilux.

Good Luck.

The first SP that I bought had the 5cm/1.1 in external mount on it. Judging by the dent in the top plate, and front bezel, the owner dropped the lens on it. I could not afford the lens, but it got me hundreds off on the price of the camera body because of the dent. Nothing a trip to Shintaro could not handle, though.

Ironic that Rhona45 DID buy the cap for $500!!
I wonder if he is going to throw it in with the 1.1 he is trying to sell for $4200 or if he is going to bump the price up to $5K?

Prices

Prices are crazy on alot of gear, but you've got to think of it this way, many dealers look at ebay as advertising. They know that "trolling" with over inflated prices will take time, but could eventually pay off. I find ebay to be a totally timed effort anymore. I do cruise it often looking for deals, got a Hasselblad 500 EL/M with a 250mm Sonnar and an A12 back for $560 a couple weeks ago, not bad. But the best deals to be had are in the summer months when alot of deals can be had over busy holiday weekends, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc. What I do find amazing is Nikon S's in piss poor condition starting for $699.

Finding outlandish starting prices and BIN's for any given model of camera on Ebay is easy. Getting bargains takes a little longer. My "beater" S2 with F1.4 lens was under $400, my "User" (7.5/10) Nikon SP with 5/1.4 was $925. The lens needed repair to the aperture blades, and the camera needed the VF cleaned, aligned, and helical cleaned.

Only go by completed auctions to judge the real worth of an item. If it seems out-of-line, look for shill bidding.
