Question Inherited Canon cameras, etc. How to sell it?

hello. I am new here. I have inherited a ton of Canon equipment. I really don't need this stuff so I am looking for the best way of selling it fairly.

I have a IIIA range finder / 50mm f1.8. very good case.
Canon P w/ f1:1.2. extremely fine case
Canon Pellix w/ 50mm f1:1.4. Mirror is in excellent condition. excellent case
Canon A-1 w/50mm f1:1.4 and case. Excellent
Canon wide angle serenar 35mm f:2.8 w/ range finder and excellent case.
Canon Serenar 135mm f:3.5 w/range finder and excellent case.
Canon 50mm lens case. excellent condition
Canon flash unit B-II
Canon auto-up 40'-22' serenar 50mm f1.8. case is excellent
Canon auto-up II 50mm f1.8. Appears to be in origanl plastic wrap. Excellent case
Canon lens hood for super-canomatic R 100mm f:2. Original box. Appears to have not been used.
Canon 50mm f:1.2 lens case. Excellent .Used very little if any.
Canon self timer II. W/case. excellent condition.
Canon camera holder model L. this shows very little use if any. Case is excellent.
Canon series VT f:1.9 50mm/ f3.5 35mm lens hood. This shows a little use.
Canon range finder w/case. This seems to be an adjustable instrument. It is larger than a regular range finder and has the E P diamond on the front. You can adjust the size of the object in view. I am stumped on this one.
Walz filters for the IIIA w/kenko case. excellent.
Koden light meter w/case. excellent
Walz Coronet B light meter w/ case. excellent
Hansa self timer w/ case. excellent
Canon Rapid Winder. Still in the original box. Appears to have never been used.

All of the above belonged to an excentric uncle. He would purchase items then never use them. It is like a time capsule. All of the above items are in excellent condition. I would wager that a few have never even been used.

Can you good folks offer some advice as to the best way of disposing of these items?

Well, I could give you my adress...

Either put them here in the classifieds, or on Ebay, and they'll be gone soon enough. Should make you some good money as well.

Oh, foo, I hate being broke. I really would love to buy that 35/2.8 Serenar from you.

This place is probably well able to buy all of it off of you. What you'll need to do though, is set some prices and take some pics with a digicam. It's hard to say exactly, but you could end up with a fair bit of money for some of these items.

We did have one other gentleman with an estate set of Canon gear that he sold here rather than on ebay. You might wish to search for the thread.

People seem to have good success when selling here if they post pictures of items and ask the fair market price. You can post in the classifieds with pictures, descriptions and prices and ask people to send you a private message if they are interested. There are a lot of Canon enthusiasts on this site. Because they love these cameras so much everyone seems pretty careful with their funds---saving up for the next item on the wish list---so items priced to high don't move.

Here is a site with Canon lenses and prices. I'm not sure how up to date they are. http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/can.htm You can also look around the used sections of major online camera sellers like B&H cameras, Adorama, keh.com but I think they are on the high end of prices. You pay for the trust in the seller and their expertise. I don't imagine they have a great urgency to move items as well. There are a lot of people on this site that could help out with price suggestions. You can look for some of these items on eBay and "watch item" until they sell. The prices and bids during the sale can be deceptive.

It is also important to talk about the condition of the items. Mention any blemishes on the bodies, if the shutter speeds all fire properly, and if the rangefinder is bright and clear. How wrinkled are the shutters inside the camera. People interested in lenses want to know if there are any scratches, haze, fungus, or seperation in the glass. How is the condition on the lens barrel and does the focus work smoothly, aperatures click properly, is there oil on the aperature blades (comon in these canon lenses). The bettter the description the better chances of a happy sale. Talk about conditions of sale: payment methods, shipping, and returns.

eBay has a lot of fees and can be complex but you might get more money in a real auction situation. I think popular items like lens and bodies seem to get more when sold separately. Unusual items that do not have a high demand might be harder to clear out. If you post everything in one auction you might make less but clear everything out at once. eBay buyers like sellers with experience and good feedback, especially for expensive ticket items.

I imagine you could find a dealer to buy everything. That will probably make the least. I wouldn't know who to suggest.

...my thoughts on your question. I'm pretty new here so others may have something to add or correct.

Bob, thanks. Hey, does your daughter know about cameras? I am retired from Morgan Stanley. We have something in common.

gtramctram, my daughter and her husband use a Canon SLR, I seem to recall, and take an occasional pix of this, that or the other... One of the big wheels at Morgan Stanley in New York -- bob greenhill-- arranged an interview for my daughter some years ago but nothing happened... I knew lots of guys there...regards, bob

There was a dealer who just sold a Rapidwinder on the evilbay for $400 MIB......
(I wonder if the dealer bought it from this guy? - You know it`s a small world out there!)

Welcome. I think, if you are patient, you will get fair-excellent prices by selling here and the gear will go to dedicated photographers. I buy and sell here and on ebay, and this is by far a more pleasant and civilized process, as well as satisfying to work with like-minded souls. Also, there will be no ebay fees.

Now, I will not be shy: I have been looking for a nice Canon P and the 50mm f1.2 lens, so I am DEFINITELY ready to work with you to acquire that set-up (with the 50mm 1.2 lens case). So let's talk and I am confident we can work out something good for both of us.

I have noticed that, recently, a number of old threads have miraculously sprung to life, w/out any new posts. Must be the weather...
