J-11 and J-12 Lens

I find that with my J-11 and J-12 lens for my Kiev cameras that the lens lock doesn't engage, I guess this is because it uses the outer bayonet mount and the lock pin sits on the outer rim of the lens and can't go all the home, just wonder why they didn't make the rim smaller so that the lens would lock.

The designers intentionally meant for the infinity lock above the focus wheel to be disengaged with bayonet-mount lenses. There's actually a separate mechanism on the mount to specifically do this.

If the locks on the back rim of the lenses aren't locking into place, then there's a problem. If the bayonet-mount lenses don't lock into place, you can accidently roate them off while focusing or changing f-stops. Could also jam the on-camera focus helicoid.

All of my lens (J-8,H 103, 11 or 12) lock when mounted to the camera, it's just the J-11 and 12 dont lock when the focus wheel is set to infinity postion.

If you're saying that the locking pin behind the focusing wheel doesn't pop up into it's locked position with the J-11 & J-12 lenses mounted, that's perfectly normal operation. The lock function for the focusing wheel is disengaged for all lenses using the outside mounting lugs. The pointed pin located between 1~2 o'clock is pushed outward by the lens flange and that unlocks the focusing wheel.

If you try to use the focusing wheel with the J-11 & J-12 lenses - or any outside mount lens - you'll ultimately damage the gears.

Thanks Walker
Based on you comments I guess everthing is working as it should be.
I always focus using the len when I have the J-11 or 12 on the cameras, I only use the focus wheel when I'm using the normal 50mm lens.
Thanks for your input.
Bob
