J-12 focusing to infinity issue

I just got a 1960 chrome Jupiter 12 in Kiev/Contax mount. Took it for it's trial run today and discovered that I can't focus it to infinity. Thought it might be the RF on my 4am that was out of alignment, but that isn't the issue. It focuses fine with my Helios 103 attached. When I first mount the J-12, the two images in the RF window line up, but after the focusing knob is turned, they won't come back together at infinity.

I have to file something know, don't I?

First, make sure the collar of the J-12 is engaging the inner bayonet. Look to see that the focus wheel turns as you focus the lens. I had to lube the collar on mine. I also had to set the lens in the barrel to focus correctly. Used a Nikon S2 set to "T" to adjust with a loupe.

Worked great after collimating, filing, and lubing.

Got a point there!

I tried the lens again today and it looks like it isn't completing it's hookup to the focusing collar before it takes hold. The little tab on the focusing dial never pops up. (Does that make sense?)

What do I need to do about this?

The level will not pop up at infinity. I think after setting distance scale at 3+ (camera), it's easy to mount the lens (set at infinity) and get them engaged.

The little tab on the focus wheel: The infinity lock, should not pop up with any lens that uses the external mount.

Angry

JUST GREAT!!!!

I was messing around with this thing again tonight, cause I still can't get this stupid J-12 to focus properly and now the focus wheel won't turn anymore!!

I'd had the J-12 mounted and was looking through the back with the shutter on B to see if anything looked funky. Everything looked fine to my untrained eyes, but once I took the lens off, I couldn't get the focus wheel or the element on the lens mount to turn anymore. Any idea what I did?
