Part 2, Rare Elmar - The Pics

Here are some pictures taken with the 1935 uncoated 135mm f/4.5 Elmar "not noted for it's sharpness". Film is AGFA APX-400 (sold as Arista Pro-400) developed in Rodinal 1:25 for 7 minutes at 68 degrees. I wanted to use D-76 1:1 but my small remaining amount had gone bad.

The camera is a 1949 IIIc leica.

First picture is full-frame, handheld, taken at f/6.3 and 1/100.
Second picture is detail from frame 1, scanned at 3200 dpi and unmanipulated.
Third picture is full frame. Cedar stump is in full shade.

Perhaps not a lens for razor's-edge sharpness but certainly not bad, either. A slower, fine-grain film with greater tonal range should be even better.

I'm adding a second post with pictures taken with a 50mm f/2 Summar and a 90mm f/4 Elmar..... both uncoated. They are on the same roll of film as the 135mm Elmar shots.

Here are two pictures taken with uncoated Summar and Elmar lenses. They are on the same roll of film as the shots in the first message.

First picture is my wife looking over some paperwork. Flourescent lights, 50mm f/2 Summar at f/3.2
Second picture is our granddaughter while she was waiting to play chess. 90mm f/4 Elmar at f/6.3.

Well I can't fault the lens at all. But gawd I love Rodinal!

Yep, I can see I'm going to need and uncoated range of lenses too. Nice to see these and get a feel for what they can do. I've got a roll from New Year's Eve (shot daytime, before the party that has some 90/4 shots on it. I better get out the Diafine tomorrow... Plus-X @EI400 in Diafine is probably my favorite combination.

Post some of the pictures, please. I've always liked Plus-X and would like to see what it'll do in Diafine at 400.

Amen to that. Looks good to me. No shortcomings there for my tastes. You've done well and thanks again for sharing these. ... By the way, nice to be surrounded by pretty models too, ay?

If there's anything worth posting, I will. Been that way for me for awhile, although there is some real potential with these.

Don't forget that these lenses do fine with color as well. Gives a nice Pastel flavor.

GREAT colors Brian! Looks like an early morning/late evening sun. I favor pastels so I'll be giving color a try. The 90 Elmar is an excellent lens as yours shows.

I agree that having pretty models is nice. While my wife is always here, I don't see my grandaughter often enough! She lives up your way.
