Goin' to Rotterdam tomorrow...

nope, not to visit the city, i've seen it already many times.
I'm going there to pick up a contax iia + opton sonnar 50/2. I hate myself for loving contax.
Looks good on the images, but i prefer checking it out before i pay for it. Will cost me 150 euro (yes, only 150) plus the travel. I like to travel. Especially with such goals. If it works i will go to rotterdam centrum and snap some street shots.

If all goes well - anybody interested in a Kiev 4 + Jupi-8 ?

The invest in gasoline is a wise one. IMHO you simply cannot buy a used camera you could not touch before ? Turnin' all wheels and knobs, looking inside with a lamp, smell . listen to the release and so on.
Otherwise it is just a lottery and I personally hate it to lose.
Good luck and post a photo of it, please.

Pherdinand, don't hate yourself. That's one great body + lens combination. Hopefully, it's in good condition.

Ahh, I see, you are even wiser than I assumed you to be anyway !!!
50% of the German Autobahn is under construction at the time, put some snow on this mess and "the highway to hell" is done.
I could not exactly say why but concerning the glass somehow I found the Zeiss designs more exciting than the Leitz designs. Probablly because of the Planars and Tessars which I assume to produce the most vivid pics at all !
One of the reasons why I like my CV lenses, they have a more Zeiss like, contrasty footprint. A matter of taste, sometimes (seldom for me) something softer is nicer, I admit.

Looking forward to the pics,
bertram

Good photo opportunities around the Architecture museum. Is Kijkus Kubus in Rotterdam? I think it is, have you been? Crazy architechture.

Have a good trip.

yep, kijkkubus is there. I've been there a few times.
Crazy architecture, indeed, moreover lots of crazy people just like in any big city i guess.

hmmm
I'm back. The contax iia looks okay, focusing+rangefinder is good (although very dirty rf/vf windows) but the shutter is sluggish. It is completely irregular at all speeds and sometimes sticks open at slow speeds, with interruptions in the buzzing sound.
I think it needs a real good cleaning, hopefully not more. My fingers got itchy when i noticed the shutter malfunctioning it's better than if it was perfectly working.
And the lens is great; only tiny cleaning scratches visible when looking through it towards a strong light source.

Oh did i mention that I bought it?

Well, that's unfortunate but expected of the old Contax cameras. Luckily, a routine CLA should return this camera to its former glory.

Well Pherdi, you already resurrected a IIIa to its glory yourself, being the IIa infinitely superior in the appearance terms, I'm sure you'll do the same with it

Woohoo. I opened it up, was full of dust and weird greasy dirt. Cleaned it, lubricated the shafts, and some moving parts, removed the slow speed delaying mechanism and cleaned it in ethanol - after about 4 hours of messing with it, works grrreat now! 1s to 1/5 s is still a bit slower than it should be, but gets better with every shutter release.
And i WON"T leave this one in the living room! HAHA!
Gotta load it with some slides to check it in real life...

Oh, i broke the head of one of the bottom screws that keep the front mask in place...it was too soft and tight. but it's a user anyway, some corrosion on the chrome and heavy use on the leather. And it stinks!

It's considerably lighter than the Kiev 4, and as far as i remember it's lighter than the contax iiia i had. And looks nicer It has an engraving on the top, quite well-made... says A.W.H., the initials of the old guy i bought it from. I guiess i'm the second owner.

Thinking about selling the opton sonnar 50/2 that came with it. How much is it worth? excellent shape, except some cleaning marks (very tiny scratches) visible but only when looking through it towards a light source.

B will do on those speeds - if you're timely. Congratulations!
