M3 enroute back

Well, my M3 is on its way back: one C$22 rewind gear and C$200 of labour later. Jerry Smith at Kindermann at first quoted a CLA in the estimate, and then upon review decided it wasn't necessary.

Now I need an M2 and a 35mm lens as backup.

They're expensive, aren't they? Jerry Smith has an excellent reputation so you should be all set for a while now.

Why go for an M2? More maintenance expense... I decided to go for an M6TTL for my first Leica 'cos it was only a couple of years old so I figured it won't need a repair for many years. Also I bought it from a very reputable dealer who gave a very generous warranty on it, even though it was used.

$200 of labor and no CLA?! I will let you know how Essex does with my M2: quoted $180 for the rewind repair plus CLA.

Throw a party when the camera arrives! Load it up with some fine emulsion and take it out for a walk!

If I can beat this 'flu, I will! And now I'll post a question about emulsions, for those who may know...

Sorry to hear about your flu... Plenty of water and rest instead, so your party will celebrate not only the return of your "preciousss" but also your return to the land of the healthy!

$222 CDN still sems high. That's about $150 US? Still seems a lot for no CLA with the repair.

sad to say brian but most things cost more up here.
of course we have free (mostly) health care and some other benefits that off set things some.

my bessa r was 599 cdn and the 35/2.5 was about 399 cdn and the 75/2.5 was around 479 cdn.
with tax/customs/exchange it still would have been cheaper to buy american from gandy.

but i like to support the local economy too.

Nina got her BSc at Mcgill; she is originally from New York. The used camera prices in Montreal seemed a little high to me; but that was 20 years ago!

I do business with several Canadian optical firms, including some custom R&D jobs; on this end it always seems reasonable.

Would you also pay tax/customs on a repair job?
