Someone asked about this lens hood a few days ago here on this forum. I just saw this ad by someone on PN. The price is right. Go for it.

Gary has some nice stuff, and you are right, even at $135 that is a good deal.

a question

Ok, so my question is...why does there seem to be an inexhuastable supply of Canon 50mm f1.2 hoods in "new" or "like new" condition?
Did someone find a container that has been misplaced since 1957?
I love this lens and the hood does look cool, but it doesn't stay on very well-as anyone who has ever grabbed their camera hood first knows.
I found that adding a filter to the lens gives the hood a little more to hold on to, but mine is still not as solid as I'd like.
Did everyone who ever bought a 50 f1.2 realize this fact? Or, is someone "remanufacturing" these hoods?
After all, they usually sell for half the price on the lens.

p.s.
no reflection on the current seller.
I've just seen a suprising amount of the hoods for sale over the past few years.

Yeah, it's the same with the plastic hood clamp on OEM models for my Canonet G-III, they never seem very secure. And also tend to pivot round the clamp screw :-(

If the heavystar guy (on ebay) produced a nice equivalent Screw In vented 55mm hood, I'd buy one....

And on a similar thread, on UK eBay there seems to be a spate of the wee plastic Canon A-series hot shoe & sync. socket covers (and other bits and pieces) that orginate from India. But they are nice & do the job.

I think, the word got out that such lens hoods can bring the seller a good amount of money.
