Well it had to happen sooner or later. A return of gas, fueled by evilbay. This time a fully working F90x for very little money with a nice user 50mm f1.8 af nikkor. I have already scrubbed away the nasty rubber back sticky stuff and have a lovely camera. It is loaded with Tri-X and ready for action. It has to be the best bang per buck for any camera I have bought.
I paid £55 for mine and I have seen 50mm f1.8 lenses alone selling for more than that ! I reckon I bought a lens and had a free camera thrown in .......
Great camera and a real bargain, I bought one new when I was a student it was the first new camera I had ever bought, look out for a 28-70 f3.5-4.5 (I think) perfect match is also a great bargain
If sports and AF speed is not a priority, F801s/N8008s cameras are like $25. Bang!

Just looked at KEH, sobering for one like me who is "long" on this asset: Sticky-back N90s for $13 to $35. N90-N90s bodies in better shape for $30-$110.
With film body prices this low, might as well aim higher... how about an F100?

Where did all these cameras come from?
How solid are Nikon bodies of this era? I have a couple of Canon EOS bodies that are all plasticky and the latch gave out on the back panel, and it sprang open mid roll. Recently, I've been shooting with a Nikon FE and collecting AIs lenses, and so it would be logical to look at other Nikon bodies...
My N90s had the most fantastic light meter of any camera I've ever owned. Reads down to like -1EV. Was on a shoot back in 1995 with that camera, in the middle of Amish country Pennsylvania, 2 o'clock in the morning, moonless night, black as pitch, candle in the window of a farmhouse about a mile away, and that damn camera read the light and I got the shot. Amazing.

From memory never owned them at the same time but I'm sure the f90x was a bit more solid feeling than the f100. It is unbelievable how cheap these cameras are, I'm sure I paid about £700 or £800 for mine with the grip. My favourite film camera bargain is still the f4 which can be bought now for £100, I can still remember looking in camera shop windows when I was a kid seeing them for £1800!
I liked my F90x and they are so cheap now. It's probably the only camera I've owned that I've lost money on though!
F100's seem to go for about 100-130 euro for nice boxed ones. I sold my last one for 130. To my mind the F100 was a big leap forward and felt stronger than the 90 because of the metal top plate. Rewind fork is a none issue if you get a later one, most were changed anyway.
The biggest change from the 90 though was the scroll wheel set up which is still the same in the latest Nikons. This makes the 90 feel weird if you are using the latest Dslr's alongside. Apart from that the 90x is probably the nicest Nikon for the least money. Once you get the bug for older A/F Nikons you'll find them so easy and intuitive to use. I think you got a bargain with that 50, enjoy it.

Have to differ with you on that. The F90X has a plastic top, the F100 is metal. Both have plastic vertical/battery grips. To me the grip of the F100 is better but the finder of the F90X is brilliant in bright light where the exposure info in the F100 is hard to read. The F90X was my first Nikon and autofocus camera and I have done some great shots with it now I also have the F100 and both are great cameras.
The F90x has been on my check list for a while now but the prices they tend to fetch on eWay (w/ lens) is usually above my budget...
