3 years extended warranty is quite possible. Even regular, I've seen new M8.2-s been offered up to about a year ago.

M8.2 is still listed in many places, no idea about actual availability. The list price is typically fairly close to M-E.

This is probably no help, but here goes:

You said you enjoyed film more than digital…..
The Monochrom is in my view the very first digital Leica that can really compete with film, perhaps even surpass it, now that high ISO B/W films are disappearing.

Get the M9 upgrade yourself; then sell it and put that money away to save towards a Monochrom.

In the meantime keep shooting film, which is my view is still unsurpassed by any digital Leica except the Mono...

You can still enjoy photographing that way, and then make the step to a really remarkable camera a bit later...

I think it's the opposite. Color digital surpassed color film a while ago. It was black and white that was always better with film. The MM is just now allowing B&W digital to catch up, IMO, although I'd still probably prefer darkroom B&W prints.

I agree with this: You don?t shoot the screen, put a gaffer tape on it and forget the whole thing . Use it as a film body. Leica photography was never meant to be :"Click, check the screen. oh my subject escaped..."

One could say it's not for chimping and that's alright... but don't you guys ever get the idea of using it for instantly showing images to the people you shot or for reviewing images once the action died down or for... many other things?

"Hey I'm using a Leica here... no peeking at images I just took!"

Do you show the images you took with film leica ?? Yes, I do.. on the exhibition wall... I pretend the M8 is a film leica, nothing more.
