Thanks for the comments guys, Jesse, good to see your photographs around here. That Mono is your camera!

Here is two from a series of shots about Shanghai - both with E46 pre ASPH + Mono:

I'm finally going to have some 'decent' prints made from a number of my Monochrom files -- I just got a 17" wide roll of the Ilford Prestige Galerie Gold Fibre Silk paper (man that is a long name!) and dropped it off to my printer today. Hopefully I'll see some results later this week, and I'll let you guys know how they all look and how that paper is. I'm only going to be making the prints somewhere in the 8"x12" - 11"x14" range, so no just murals yet!

Love that paper for color work...it's a very underrated paper and few give it a chance due to it's lower price but I feel it's right up there. I printed a couple of B&W images on it and although good (too few to make a definitive statement), I did get the impression that some of the Baryta papers did better. It's very much subject dependent though.

Epson Exhibition Fiber Paper is another great one, but of course a completely different kind of paper and I favor that one for B&W images.

Wow, all great B&W imagery coming from the MM. I've worked on a number of occasions with it's files and now all I have to do is find a satchel full of $$. Satchel doesn't have to be fancy like a ONA or Billingham, simply a paper bag will do ..LOL!

I've already commented elsewhere how impressive Ashwin's images are, especially the one that remind me of film noir type images...but lovely to see Jesse's extremely impressive images from the fashion show as well as Dirk's and everyone elses. Great work everyone...a different look with each but wonderful nevertheless!

Hey guys, thanks for hanging out in this nice thread and commenting ;-)
I hope to see more of Peter's photography here - always loved the intimacy, he can capture!

Here are a few more shots from the black paint E46, which I just learn to process …

Just a point of clarification -- The Ilford Galerie FB Gold Fibre Silk IS a baryta paper, yes?

Yes, that's what I thought. Thanks for the verification.

I'm sure that as the technology advances, we will get closer and closer to what a 'traditional' fibre-based paper is like (if in fact that's what we're trying to replicate). When I dropped the roll of the Gold Fibre Silk off to my printer, we had a quick look at it. The finish is nice, though I think ultimately I'd like to find a paper that's closer to a glossy 'traditional' fibre-based paper. Something like a Zone VI Brilliant FB or an Ilford Multigrade FB.

Of course the nice thing about looking at unprocessed Digital FB paper is that you don't have look at it under a red light in the darkroom!

My fav was always Kodak Elite. I always had everything for grade II through grade iV stocked in my darkroom. Had an old Solar 5X7 enlarger with a zone VI cold light head. Still love silver gelatin prints and platinum prints. The metal reflecting light does have a different look from ink on paper but you are right some of the new fiber papers do look good for ink on paper. For B&W digital I really do like Epson Exhibition Paper.

Vince,

I'm looking into Canson's papers for my printing, but know I'm building up and new to digital. From what I glean Canson's papers are a step into that traditional look of a wet print.

Thanks Allen!

You guys are discussing papers for digital printing - I print my stuff since a few years exclusively with RedRiver papers on a Pigment ink Canon.

RedRiver has a huge variety of different grades, shades, fibres for different kind of printers - give them a try!
I print exclusively B&W and use mainly their Satin paper in heaviest weight.
I like the Arctic Polar best for B&W printing - doesn't give that vintage, aged look, but a slightly cold look, which I prefer.

I just made a 600 USD order for different papers, now also trying their glossy stock and a baryta paper (not sure, if I like that).
I made comparison prints back when I started to print myself with EPSON, Canon and Hahnemuehle papers and liked the RedRiver stuff best (when bought in bulk as I do, it's also the most affordable, while at least at the same quality as the best EPSON and Hahnemuehle papers).

I don't do "fine art papers" and rag printing, as I don't like that stuff, so I don't have a clue how that material compares.
I print most of my stuff from final edits in ~A5 size on 13x19" paper and cut, as I like to work with prints much more than doing everything on a computer.

Thank you. I mean seeing this father/daughter in a very interesting position and then taking of picture of them reading the menu at Henri's with the Henri I just had to push the shutter.
