What glass to get?

Can someone please help me with my lens dilemma?
I am a gear minimalist, I just want a max of 1-3 lens and move on with my life. Got the superb RD1 that I know is going to stick with me for a while.

I have the Jupiter 8 that I REALLY do NOT like (no click stops is a real deal breaker). I want a lens that I will be attached to (the more attached, the less likely you will part with it, the more you'll use it and the better you will be) so I want some good lovable solid glass. I have a budget of around 500, but the more pocket money the better. I also want something faster than f2

I am hesitating between the Voigtlander 35mm 1.4 and the Canon 50 LTMs.

Any thoughts on the Voigty 35 1.4 vs canon ltm 50 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.8 ???

1.4 and 1.2 is 1/3 stop right? Is it THAT important? I really like the ease of focusing on the Voigty with the index pushing thingamajig. Is the long focus barrel a pain on the Canons? Please help, I'm pissed off on indecisiveness!

It's not easy to beat the Voigtländer 35/1.4 at any price, if you value small size and good handling. And it gives a very useful ~50mm field on the Epson.

If you are undecided between 35 and 50, you might try the cv 40 1.4 Nokti. Lot of us keep it on the RD-1, fits the 35mm framelines well. Cheaper than the 35mm. A little outside your price range new, but not used.

1.2 lenses not worth it for the speed. Some love it for the signature.

hehe I believed the one in the classified was a 35 1.4 but it was a 40 1.4. I was like what's a 5mm gonna do? I don't even know why the huge price difference. So I bit the bullet and got it. Perfect for my budget. I was afraid of getting the canons because I was afraid of not "bonding" with them like I did when I had a 35 1.4 to mess around with. So with the 40mm, are the framelines negligible when you put them on 35?

good move...i love a 40 on the rd1 and it would be my choice as a solo lens...35mm framelines work great.

it is depend on what lens you like for daily use.
I have 35mm Nokton as well 50mm f1.2 canon.
I tend to use 50mm with film camera, so for rd1, 35mm work best for me.
But then come "bokeh", warmness, constrast, saturation and other lens characteristic into calculation..
Nokton, is more for color work, while canon (with it's low contrast character) is BW.
Then come sonnar. well, comparing it to the canon, it has it's own signature, so at the end sonnar 50mm is the most lens i use either in film/rd1. This is not logical decision.
So for you, try to think what is important to you, what do you want your picture will be. 35 vs 50 is only a matter of field of view, each lens has it's own character, once you know what you want, get it.

Nokton Classic is great for the RD1. A 50mm would be great for a second lens but not as a primary.

a 35mm lens on the R-D1 will be much more versatile than a 50mm, imho.

the 35/1.4 Nokton is a fantastic lens and matches the R-D1 wonderfully.

you might consider the 35/1.7 Ultron as well: a bit longer than the nokton, but no reflex and smoother oof rendition.
