| Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history! |

It's very unfortunate westerners are barred from experiencing the wonders of this magical place, due to politics. I hope this can change very soon -- not only for the benefit of long-suffering Tibet but for the long-term stability and safety of China itself (a place I've visited often and love).
Politics aside, you're very fortunate to see this place and photograph it for yourself...I would suggest more visits, and I bet your images will change and evolve with more experience seeing that place. They're already strong, so it'd be fascinating to see what they become with more visits.

Fantastic pictures! Now the price of Canon 28/3.5 LTM black version will go up
to my eyes and taste, a few of them could do with slight increase of fill light though

How did you get in?
Again, I will mirror the other posts, wonderful photos. I am wondering how did you get in. I have been living in Sichuan for almost 2 years, and I have been told by the local officials they are not letting foreigners in to Tibet.

wonderful images! it really does look like heaven. it must've been some trip...
i also second what somebody said before, too bad that the modern world with it's devastation will come down those brand new roads... good for you that you've been there before that happened.

So everyone's taken shots of the tree in #9. I'll never do that again the next time I'm there...

It changes almost daily. I've been in Beijing for two years and many of my friends have gone (foreigners). It really depends on if it is a holiday or if any monks have self-immolated recently.
Also, you must go in with a tour group. That can be a tour group of one though, it is done so that you have a watchdog of sorts with you. It is common though to be able to leave your guide after passing the checkpoints.

Raid deleted his post -- but I can tell these photos are sharper than they appear reduced for the web. Not sure what is screwing them up, but on my screen (Apple 27" set bright) also they are very soft and dark.

I did not want to look like a party spoiler, so I deleted my posting.
The potographer i very competent in takingphotos, and the camera and lens are known to e excellent, so this left either/or a posting issue or it was my laptop. Since your computer screen also shows dark images with low sharpness, there seems to be a posting issue.

Supposedly it's tougher now than a couple of years back when I went, but the fall is a great time to go–fewer tourists and more pilgrims in Lhasa.
Contact some tourist agencies in the TAR directly and see what they think, but they should be able to arrange the papers directly for you. Feel free to contact me with questions.

The pictures are great, but to my eyes it looks like something evil is going on in the corners on a lot of the images. Am I imagining it? Or is there maybe some artifact of either the lens' rear element vs. the sensor's microlenses, or application of cornerfix or something else?

Thanks! Hey buddy, you are not imaging... It's truth... I also found that and I don't know how it comes. I think this antique lens is too old to use on the digital full frame camera.
