R-D1x price

I see a few "new in box R-D1x" on ebay, average price is close to $1900.00. When I go to "english translation" Epson Japan Direct Shop, they seem to be priced at $3800.00. Anyone know why such a large discrepancy?

No - there is no reason (other than that $3,800 would be full retail price - which only a stupid person would pay when you can get them for half the price). But given that the $1900 ebay versions are still from reputable sellers (and the ones I've seen are), I know which one I would go for ...

ebay sellers jack up the price in the hope that they'll someday get a freak lucky sale at the outrageous price and take a huge profit between the actual cost and selling price

Except that in this case the reverse is happening. $1,900 on ebay versus $3,800 in an actual bricks and mortar store.

I saw the same ones and was tempted. The eBay stores selling them are reputable so you can buy with confidence. I had a look at Yodobashi and a few other Japanese stores online and they were going for about mid to high $2k.

Sadly, not any more:

http://www.mapcamera.com/item/itemDe...=4988617021594

But a used "fair" R-D1s going for 84,800 JPY:

And that is with a six month warranty. I love these guys, my favourites to deal with in Japan so far.

I finally could not resist, and picked up a new one for 129,000 JPY.

On the first day after about 30 shots, the shutter speed got jammed on 1 sec, and even a battery removal did not fix the issue. Overnight, it seemed to correct, although a play around this morning brought the same problem back. Off to work, and upon returning home, the problem fixed, but not my patience, and went to Map Camera to test their 14 day exchange policy. Although I could not prove the issue in front of their eyes, they exchanged the camera for a new one. Great service, great guys and courteous at that.

yes, $800 is a pretty good price, considering it's from a shop.

Very good price depending on condition of course. I paid $1000 and had to get mine fixed.
