Nikon SP and F advertisement
Just ran across the original of this in my piles of stuff, so I scanned a copy in case it's of interest.

That's a great little piece of photo arcania. I have a few old Leica ads as well as a bunch of old photo magazines from the 1950s to the 80s and these days looking through old advertisements is great. Sometimes I find some accessory info I never knew existed.

My darkroom instructor (also a member of RFF) brought a few old magazines from the 1950's into the darkroom and I saw one of these ads in one of the magazines.
I was quite fascinated by all of the old ads and the prices the old photo equipment was selling for.
Of course, back then no one knew that the F would take off and leave the Nikon rangefinder behind.
Amazing!
Thanks for sharing.
Ellen

Yes, I have the same ad. Here are a bunch of others, ranging from June 1952 up to June 1960, spanning 8 years of fine Nikon ads.

By the way, this webpage is the first of what will eventually become my personal website, mainly about Nikon photography.

Funny to see how they sized the F to be of identical body dimensions to the SP, on the picture

...Perhaps because the F evolved from the SP, maybe? The experts can chime in on the number, but I think the two cameras have large numbers of interchangeable parts.

Cool.
Several of the early Nikon ads strike me as being very similar, down to the layouts & slogans, to Zeiss Ikon Contax ads from before WWII. I wonder if they used the same ad agency &/or the similarities between Nikon RFs & Contax cameras lent themselves to the same kind of campaign.

That's very interesting to know. Do you have any Zeiss Ikon Contax ads from that era you could share with us?

I only have a few that were made into refrigerator magnets, bought off eBay. Here's an example of 1 that's currently selling (in its original form): http://www.ebay.com/itm/1936-ZEISS-I...-/350595655761
