New Firmware Update for OM-D (1.2)

Apparently this update includes:

1) Improvements to the camera's speed at waking from Sleep Mode.
2) AF Target Indication when using Continuous Autofocus with Tracking with the Sequential L setting.

Find it here: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...p?id=1583&os=w

I had been getting a slow start up on occasion -- usually with Panny lenses. And long sleeps sometimes wouldn't wake with the shutter (had to power cycle). I've only used it with the new firmware for a few minutes, but it seems much quicker to power up. I'll have to leave it in sleep for a while to test that...

I'm going to upgrade the firmware as soon as I've charged the battery. Don't want it to conk out in the middle of upgrading the firmware!

From memory with the OMD you can use Viewer 2 to download and install the update.

Yes, you can, on the TOP menu, under "Camera"

Olympus provided a stand alone "Olympus Digital Camera Updater" with the OEM CD, makes it the easiest camera update workflow ever!

Here are the very simple instructions

If it weren't for the CB-USB6 design they use I might be able to agree. Why put such a connector on the camera?

I agree the cable type they chose is wacky.

Updated my camera last night with no apparent snags. Kinda risky as I'm leaving for vacation but I've had the 20mm "freezing" problem and hopefully this update addresses it.

My small and paranoid issue is that when my camera was briefly connected to the internet accessing some data base god knows where ... they had control of it and I didn't!

Don't do it ... warning from Oly

This may be over by now, but there was a warning from Oly about the updating "killing" or "bricking" some EM-5's

No, I don't have this documented, but would rather tell you to check on this before you have a problem. I saw the reference to the warning over on www.fourthirdsphoto.com.

Here is the text from the warning post earlier today:

Default Re: E-M5 firmware update version 1.2

Warning Folks, advice from Olympus Europe is not to do the update for the time being as it seems to have been killing too many cameras.
I don't know if this also applies to the US.

This came to light on e-group HERE not from the Olympus update page where it is still listed.
I can't imagine why they haven't pulled it until the issues are resolved.

Personally I completed the update successfully before Ian posted about the problem.
