CV metal finders - Protection for eyeglasses

Hi
The CV 28mm metal brightline finder is great but my glasses get scratched to death by the bare metal... Would the vinyl protection donuts sold by CameraQuest fit the finder? Or is there a better alternative? (I tried to make my own donuts but it's not as easy as I thought it would be).

Try making one from adhesive foam (like Jon Goodman's) - I have tried this on a couple of RF viewfinders because I refused to pay the CameraQuest price.

You might try cutting the foam with a "cookie cutter" method, ie find appropriate sized, hard edged items (bottle top, top from a film canister etc) and press into te foam. This should leave enough of an impression in the foam to to guide a pair of scissors or craft knife for a clean cut shape.

I just saw this and really I haven't had a problem with mine. Actually, I know that I can see the brightlines without bringing the finder right up against my glasses so maybe I just haven't scratched them yet.

Thanks for the tip, I tried something along these lines but I guess I didn't use quite the right "tools". Anyway, I will persevere...

I had the same scratchy problem a while back and cured it by carefully painting multiple layers of white glue on the metal rim. Let each layer dry before applying the next. At the end you'll have a thick finish that is not rock hard and can be removed later.

The Voigtlander 28/35 mini-finder has a nice rubber surround that will protect your glasses, although I had to stick mine in with glue as it pops our easily.

I bought the ones from Aki-Asahi on E-Bay. They fit perfectly and you get like a dozen of them for $5. They also work perfect on the old Leica M's like the M2 and M3. It is the same exact diameter.

Gandy has a huge pair of balls attempting to bilk people for $15 a pop for those eyepiece "donuts" he hawks.
