Zorki 4 - fast speeds and B not working?

Hi,

I recently got my hands on a zorki 4 that turned out to be a pretty paperweight (suppose like most are). Tore it apart, fixed the slow speed mechanism (the pawl that contacts the release for the second curtain was a little bent and not contacting it). I hooked up my handy dandy phototransistor shutter tester, slow speeds were spot on, but I then discovered the fast speeds are basically nonexistent...both curtains run, but they seem together for most of their run, perhaps apart a little toward the end of one exposure. B also does not work, instead producing the same result as the rest of the fast speeds.

Any thoughts? Perhaps a shutter curtain tension issue, somehow?

Any input is quite appreciated.

Devan

problem was solved by sitting around and consuming cheap beer while messing with the spring that holds pressure against the pin that runs down to the second shutter curtain.

I have the same issue with a Leica IIIf that some "repairman " hacked. He bent the spring till it does no good. He even had the closing curtain installed the wrong way..

I just ordered the new spring from DAG so I'll have this camera back up and running next week..

The problem was probably the same as the FED 2 shutter post, currently active. Be glad you don't take Steve M's panacea of the Bessa R, that would surely have cost you more than a few beers!
