Is their any Ilford XP2 Super love out there?

It's a nice film and it looks great but it's C41 which means I have to pay someone to develop it or use stinky C41 chemicals!

Who develops yours Akiva?

Fortunately my local chemist/drug store has a good lab wench (is that politically incorrect?) and XP2 does very well at a wonderful price.

However, I am plum out of it and am focusing on other materials. If they made it in 4x5 ...

Ha! ... he who lambasted me many moons ago for outsourcing my black and white developing via a C41 machine at the local Kodak One Hour ... when it's so easy to do conventional black and white processing at home!

And you were right of course!

I used to send it to Costco, really cheap and high quality. But they stopped doing film. I use North Shore in San Diego. Don't use it all the time, but it does develop nicely.

You can but it's a compromise and not how the film was intended to be developed.

I used to have a heap of BW400CN which is also a C41 process black and white and started developing it at home in Rodinal or whatever to use it up. The results were ok but the negs were very dense and hard to scan.

A friend once messed around with that, his film was stained this colour, and I'm not sure if he managed to get photos from it in the end, think he did but they were grey and not much contrast.

...but then you'd have to dump the chemicals after and can't reuse it

I used the film when I first started, but sometimes I use it abroad where there are no shops that develop b/w.

I did a roll of XP-2 and a roll of Kodak's equivalent at home in Rodinal; One hour with an agitation halfway through. Dilution about 1:100, minimum 500 mL volume. I got the recipe from the thread on still-developing C41 BW film back a year-18 months ago. Somebody had stunning shots of an NE USA snowstorm. I took the negs to be scanned/printed at the local camera store, but from now on will do BW C41 at home, w/Rodinal (or equivalent).

Its a great film but the cost per roll is pretty high compared to my Tri-x/HC110 combo. I have 9 rolls that I'll use up on an upcoming trip to Europe.

XP2 with Rodinal was my first film/developer combination.
i did a few hundred rolls just with XP2 and standing it for
30-40 mins in tropical temperature, with a mid-point agitation.

the good thing with rodinal was that i needed only 3ml per roll,
and a grainy high accutance developer + a grainless film
made a nice combination.

I believe Industar 50 collapsible (if i remember correctly)....



ps. the sepia tone came as a freebie when scanning as
color XP2 developed in Rodinal.

I like it fine. I prefer to soup/scan my own, though, so I don't shoot it much. It's great when I'm feeling lazy, though.

My favourite film along with Acros. I'm very lucky to have a pro lab nearby who dev the XP2 for me at $3 a roll.

And you were right of course!

Ha ha ha!!! Well, I was mixing C41 with home processing! This while I was working far away from home, so having some C41 at my disposal was convenient.

Almost impossible to blow the highlights, little "grain" and a dream to scan, what's not to like? ... ah, the price, yep it's a tad expensive sadly

Great stuff, a little expensive, but my go-to C41 B/W film after Kodak stopped selling BW400CN in 120 format. Also like it in 135 format.

My Kodak Medalist likes it too...
