Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

About what I expected.

- M9-M ... nice but not for me. I'll stick with my M9. ;-)

- Summicron 50 APO ... gorgeous. out of my price range for a 50mm lens; i'm very happy with the Nokton 50mm f/1.5 (LTM) at one-tenth the price.

- X2 ... ok, now i might have to have one. Adding an EVF was the only thing missing far as I'm concerned. After Jan 1, 2013 ... I've already spent my photo budget for 2012. That will give me time to think about it.

I see no point to complaining about the prices. If you want Leica gear, you pay Leica prices. If you won't pay Leica prices, don't consider Leica gear. End of story.

yawn... I could have predicted that you go for the pro-side of that lame event and those fancied bloggers and wannabes that are loved by leica.

How is the 50 cron asph going to raise prices for other used lenses? Wouldn't that drive down prices for the current cron?

Indeed. And to criticize his site's design and functionality would be blasphemy

Summicron pricing is nuts, Dr. Kaufmann must be prepping for the continued demise of the Euro, soak the American's and Brit's and Japanese with their "strong" currencies.

Bet it works wonderfully, but unless it makes the pictures more pretty, hard to see them selling many.

The price of the M9M sort of stretches the rubber band, even in Leicaworld, but if the Summicron ASPH price is correct.....SNAP! And I just popped for a Summilux 50mm...the cheap lens! Maybe the new lens will also wash your car and service your other needs while it's transmitting light too.

Let's hope that the price report is incorrect.

If the picture is accurate, it is a very cool looking lens though.

Yes hard to understand why it should cost almost double the price of the lux 50 asph or am I getting something wrong

Maybe, maybe not. Now you can significantly raise prices on used 50mm summicrons because they will still be a bargain compared to the new one's sky-high price.

I'm deeply curious to see files from the M Monochrome. And if Leica has decided to pull out the stops and make the finest lens they know how to, price no object then I think that's delightful even though I'm not going to buy it.

But I am kind of shaking my head at the X2...

Hm. I guess with limited supply this does seem possible.

I'm delighted and repulsed about this all at the same time. However the new summicron makes the noctilux seem pretty reasonable now.

somehow there will be a waiting list, and those that just bought a shiny new M camera will need a lens *now* and if the asph is not available, they will get a tabbed cron or anything really. and are willing to overspend, making a somewhat obtainable $1000 cron pushed into the stratosphere of 2k+...

and the zeiss 50/2 will be pushed up as well.

the tide lifts all boats.

It's APO, that's why the price is so high, because it will exhibit no CA, especially when you use it on the new Monochrome M, o wait!

Apparently you've never tuned into a macrumors live feed of MacWorld. No, this is a /kaffee klatsch/ of friends, by comparison....

And what if it's all fake? Anyone could have created these images on the basis of previous rumors... that would be joke of the year.

Although the pricing of the 'Cron makes me dry-wretch, I am deeply intrigued as to whether or not Leica have managed to produce one of the technically finest 50mm lenses available...

It might be the joke of the year anyway, even though it's completely legit.
