Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

I'll sell anyone my cherished M4 that went with me to Iraq for $8000. For that price, I'll also provide the user with B&W film, then develop the film and scan the negs at 16 pass 4000dpi on my Nikon Scanner and deliver the images to the buyer for a period of 2 years.
(All I'm hoping for is a decent firmware update to the M9.)

The X2 looks like hardly upgraded... still no aperture or focusing ring on the lens, and no interchangeable lenses. Had hoped for more than just a sensor replacement.

The way Leica puts its head in piles of gold plated sand is oddly charming.

And as predicted, the negative comments have already started before they even have dinner at the event!

Gotta love forums.

Don't go away.. there is another cap for $40 for low budget considerations.

I think this is a good move. I hope for lots of people lusting for this M9-M so that there are more normal used M9 on the market.

I can guarantee that in reality there would only be more people that will frown upon a $7k 50/2.

I guess it's called common sense.

That new Leica 50 mm must therefore make images that are 40 times nicer than my $200 Nikon 50/f1.8 ?

Actually I am jealous of the folks who can drop that much money on a lens, but I can still make fun of them, can't I ?

Ditto. Having bought my X-Pro1 only a few days before this event, I thought I was asking to be made to regret it (daydream thoughts of a $2k Leica CL Digital - HA!).

What's doubly annoying is these new products are so expensive, they sit above the existing lines. So instead of (as we see with most digital photography gear) pushing prices of older gear down, they are going to almost pull the prices up (suddenly previous generation summicrons looks like bargains)!

The new 50mm Summicron is more expensive than the 21mm Summilux.... that sort of defines crazy, to me. And I have irrational feelings about Leica....

The only really upgrade to the X1 would appear to be the possibility of adding an EVF
