Thank you. Someone else pointed me that way too, and I just got through flipping through the pages. There are a lot of really nice images there. Some are outstanding.

Folks,
I am not ignoring y'all!
Just been very busy with my work and have not been on line for the last few days.
I have a bunch of new emails to reply to and will do so later today.
After that I will let every one know our total so far.
My job will be settling down to its usual manageable mayhem after today and I will be more prompt about responding.

Rob

Thanks for the link I hadn't seen these - it just adds to the anticipation.

If folks have decided on their images, looks like MOO has free shipping through Sunday night.

I'll just add that MOO is a bit more expensive than some other postcard producers, BUT it has a thicker stock than most others. I've also recently had excellent results printing from sharpdots.com, which was recommended elsewhere on RFF, but I believe (without checking) that their stock is just a touch thinner than MOO.

We are at 47 people as of this morning, folks!
And, yes, I have not yet circulated any physical addresses. In an attempt to keep this simple for everyone, I will wait until 1 June then send one(I hope!) email to all of you with all the addresses in it.
At that point we should all plan on mailing our cards by 27 June. If folks are ready sooner, that's fine but I wanted to give people enough time to choose a photo and organize printing and have a definite goal to have the cards in the mail.

Thanks, y'all!

Thanks Rob

Can't wait to see everyone's efforts.

Did we decide on only sending one image or several? Doesn't matter to me.

Don,
I would rather we send one photo. It is a major part of the aesthetic for the project, I think.

Rob

Looks like we are near the 50 limit that a lot of guys seem to think is appropriate.

I really would like to get a card from all users, but I understand the expense and time effort if we go over 50. It is already quiet a bit!

Should we stop new joiners at 50 and give them next time the precedence? Hopefully there will be a third round sometime...

The odd thing about 50 is that Moo quantities are at 40 and 60.

To the folks above who did the thickness testing (post #60), what's the deal with the thickness you were discussing? Are you in countries where there is a thickness minimum for the postal service?

I'm thinking of just sending Costco 4x6 prints again, maybe with a Hobby Lobby stamper on the back this time, but I'd like some feedback from those who participated in the last project - do you prefer Moo or thick cards relative to thin prints?

I myself did, but only upon receiving them, handling them, reading the scribbles. BUT, after putting them in a dual sided album, it's all about the image.

What say the Gen 1 RFF Postcard project people? Thickness matters? Be honest here

A reminder for new MOO users: here's 10% off: http://www.moo.com/share/8gkfw8

(note: new MOO users can get a referral 10% link from any existing moo users, no need to use mine above)

plus you can try this for free shipping: MAYSHIP12

* This offer is valid until midnight PST 20th May 2012 and applies to the cheapest shipping option only. Order value must be at least $40 / €35 / Ł30 excluding shipping and VAT.

I don't think the thickness matters. The thicker cards "might" travel better, but getting real photographs in the mail was a highlight in round one.

The stamp for the back is a great idea.

OK, we are getting close to 50 people--47 or 8 as of this morning( 22 May).
We are about 9 days from my arbitrary cutoff date.
We will likely be more than 50 people but I don't think it will be a whole lot more.

So, I see some options here:
1) I send all of us the complete list and we all send our card to every one on the list.

2) I split the list as evenly as I can while keeping the addresses as evenly distributed ( "local" vs. "overseas" for all of us) as I can and then you each let me know if you want one or both lists.

I am not willing to limit who can participate at this late stage in the proceedings; I will use the date as a cut off but not the number of players.
Which leads to option
3) Any other suggestions for a way to handle our popularity?

I, frankly, will be (pleasantly!) surprised if we end up over 60 and I will be mailing cards to every one regardless of the final number. The corollary to that is that I will be on both lists if I split the total.

We have a few days to get consensus, what say y'all, folks?

Rob

Yep, number 1 please. 50 or 60 cards don't make such a big difference once having to write postcards on this scale *sigh*

No 1 - I vote we all mail everybody. I certainly will if that's the consensus.

Bought my cards today - now I just need to find a suitable picture

Option #2 has problems, I think.
If a member opts for 1 list their name is included on 1 list.
If a member opts for two lists, their name has to be included on both lists because if it isn't and they send say 49 cards they only get back 24. I can see giving participants a choice of being on 1 or both lists providing logistic difficulties.
Option #1 with over 50 participants is not going to be cheap - average postal cost from GB about $1 a card.
Nevertheless I will go for option #1
