is there a mech. cable release triggered electric?

I want to be able to trigger my Fuji X100 remote with a radio trigger. However the only option I have is the "old-fashioned" cable release that works mechanical. Is there a sort of converter that can be triggered remote so it "converts" the electonic trigger-signal into the mechanical trigger? I googled around but cannot find anything.

My Dad used to have a preneumatic one with a small tube of ca. 3m lenght.. probably bought some time in the 80ies from Hama.. never saw remotecontrolled mechanical ones..

Of course if you want you could probably build an easy one with a seconfhand RC and a simple servo,..

All you need is a remote solenoid connected to actuate the cable release. Try a hobby store and explain what you want to do in a "bare bones" cost basis.

Hans, how about a air release (squeeze-bulb) ? I have one that is 20 ft, so pretty remote - and cheap! One on ebay at the moment at £9.99.

Maybe easier to hire a friend then ring up on his/her mobile to shout "Now!!" . . . more seriously, it depends on where you are putting the camera of course!

It would perhaps be possible to rig a long pull-string (through tent-peg eyes on the ground) to the bottom of a tripod leg, with a duct-taped bellcrank arrangement to push a long mechanical release and fire the camera. If the camera is, for example, on a kite then that won't work of course . . .

I seem to remember a lot of camera manufacturers made radio controlled cable releases and they should be found on ebay or craigs list, or whatever. The only problem might be if your camera has a standard cable release screw and if the one you buy fits that.

But I think DIY solutions shouldn't be too hard to rig up either.

I am also looking for a wireless shutter release mechanism for cameras with mechanical shutter button (like in the X100, XPro1, Leica M's, etc). I never imagined that something like that would be nearly non-existent. The Kapturegroup contraption is a little bit expensive! It's just totally mind boggling that someone hasn't built a cost-effective wireless mechanism yet ... Bummer.

That Kapturegroup device looks pretty nice but a little above the budget, meaning a strong no from my minister of Finance
I want to use it for time-lapse photography so it will probably end up with a DIY project.
I will investigate the given links and see what is most doable for me.
