Orion-15 CLA UK/EU? [Solved]

I've recently acquired an Orion-15 (f/6, 28mm LTM) as part of a job-lot of FSU camera gear.

I would like to use it on my Bessa R2a (my CV 28/1.9 blocks the finder rather badly), but there is some slip in the focusing ring.

Can anyone recommend a reliable lens technician (preferably UK, to keep things simple) specialising in FSU lenses who will CLA this little thing?

thanks in advance

aha excellent.
A bit of research shows he's very well thought of, but it's not clear if he does lenses.
I'll give him a call tomorrow.

thank you very much indeed!

I used to have an Orion 15 but had it CLA'd at fedka in the states. I seem to remeber I got stung by customs for import duty so I'll be interested to hear if roger does do lenses

heavens that was bit of a cheeky one by HMRC ... given that it was not strictly a purchase ...

I have spoken to Roger Lean and he's happy to look at this lens for CLA, so I'll report back in due course.

Hi,

HMR&C are pretty good but the Borders Agency do the tax and duty on postal imports. They are very hit or miss in my experience. Tax and duty are, of course, paid on repairs...

Regards, David

Just to reassure you, he CLA'd a Zorki-4 for me several years ago and did a superb job including stripping down and cleaning the lens.

I received my Orion-15 back from Roger Lean today - it looks and feels brand new, probably with smoother focusing and aperture control than when it came out of the factory in 1964.

He was a pleasure to deal with, even ringing me up to check how I would like the lens reassembled so that the position of the engraving on the front plate was to my liking.

I'd certainly use him again, and recommend his service and workmanship to others.

I was likewise impressed when he CLA'd my Zorki-4 in that he listed the details of the work done. I am glad to hear that he is still in business just in case I need his services again.

Glad to hear Roger gives a good service. I was considering getting my J3 shimmed for the Leica so I may well give him a call.
