i pray that fuji doesn't abandon the idea (x100) now that the x1 is out.

i would do a little dance if they came out with some alternate focal lengths.

an x100 with a 28? ooh baby

x100 with a fast 50?

a complete kit for me

I've played around with an X100, albeit not extensively, but still I can't help but feel limited by the fact that it's a fixed-lens camera--and a $1000 one at that. I also wonder if it would receive as much as love as it does if it didn't look like a retro rangefinder. My guess is no, but ultimately it doesn't matter what I think. Other seem to like it for their photography and really that's all that matters!

Hooray for the X100. I bought one recently, and I find that it is all that it promised to be. Great lens, compact, looks good, joy to use, great sensor, legendary fill flash and exposure, and about the same price as the Zeiss 24/1.8 for NEX-7 alone.

Lots of internet whiners want to complain about irrelevancies. I found them very easy to deal with. The AF speed and accuracy is fine. Not quite as good as my Nikon SLRs, but that's OK because I have a Nikon SLR for that. You can set it for hyperfocal/zone focusing, which solves a lot of the AF issues. Also, it is apparently programmed to reset AF on every shot, which makes taking multiple shots difficult. The solution is to put it in MF mode, use the AFL button to set focus, and then shoot as much as you want without AF lag. Three or four days with the camera and you'd figure all this out; most people just want to talk about it online apparently. In many ways, I think it is still the best compact/large-sensor cam out there. But, that depends on your overall approach. For portraits and landscapes, I'd rather use my Nikon SLR, and I'm mostly a one-lens guy anyway, so the single lens doesn't bother me.

I'm moving in this direction as well... medium or large format film for the days of contemplative photography. Digital for the rest. :-)

But here's the thing... once you have an X100, and once you develop all your personal 'work-arounds'... the GAS begins to dissipate. :-)

Weather-sealed, case-hardened... YES! And it would be great if they'd replace the goofy filter adapter/hood mistake with something like the Hexar AF built-in hood.

I'd like a 50 efov as well. Maybe, just MAYBE, I'll go for the XPro1 as the rear cap for all my junk store lenses. Just waiting for the Chinese to get there act together building the Minolta-to, Pentax-to, OM-to, Adaptall-to adapters. :-)

Or, how about an X100-ish camera with a 25-50 f/2 fixed zoom? :-) Kind of like squishing the X10 and the X100 together. X50? :-)

Exactly! NO camera is perfect. They all require compromises from the photographer.

OK, Joe. Here's what you do: Buy the X100 one more time. When it arrives, take out a sharp object and put a scratch across the LCD screen. Then you'll never be able to sell it, AND you'll always be reminded of your original decision to keep this wonderful machine FOREVER! :-)

I think it would still do well as long as it had the hybrid VF, aperture ring, and shutter speed dial and wasn't shaped like a DSLR. I guess like a NEX-7 with OVF and dedicated dials.

They are darned good cameras that is for sure. I carry mine all over the place and in this regard it is not a 'bad' compromise but an absolutely brilliant one for the photographer looking for a small but potent imaging tool. It leaves me wanting nothing in this regard and I will be doing some project work with this camera alone in the not too distant future.

Gotta agree, of all the cameras I've owned, this one's already my favourite after only having it for about a month. And I say that even though I've just sent it off to Fuji HQ in London to get the dreaded "sticky aperture blades" repaired. There are only two things about the X100 I really don't like. The slow as hell manual focus ring and the battery life. Everything else is just about perfect.

I try not to worry too much about the potential lifespan of the camera, I would love it if it functioned without fault for the next 5-10 years but I expect that won't be the case. I'll just have to deal with any problems as and when they happen.

They just updated the firmware again and this time it is a *HUGE* improvement overall. I shoot a ton of corporate work where the likes of Clinton, Steve Jobs ( RIP ) and others are in attendance. In my 18+ years of using digital cameras, the X100 is by far the best one I have ever used in this genre, it is simply incredible and the people I photograph think I am using a Leica, LOL!

I am going to be doing a review from a "Users Perspective" on Photo.net in the coming weeks with lots of photos, for me, the X100 is an M9 killer and proves it self as being such more every day...
