| Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. Penn Camera is still in business. They were taken over by Calumet.

It is a couple of blocks away. And yes, the Penn camera store is still open, now affiliated with Calumet. It is fully stocked again.

Yup, a friend may be taking a job there. I may apply for a position just to get the employee discount & live out my fantasy of being a camera store a-hole ("I'm looking @ your portfolio & I honestly don't think the M9 is for you." " I liked Alex Webb way before he was cool.") .
You can follow them on Twitter: @LeicaStoreDC.

I'm curious to see how this pans out. I can think of maybe a dozen serious Lecia shooters in the district.

Yeah, but forget serious: how many RICH Leica shooters?
Within reason, Leica doesn't care if they're any good or not. Good photographers' pictures have higher visibility than bad (but rich) photographers' pictures.
Cheers,
R.

Georgetown Park? That's pretty much empty right now. New tenant(s) TBD.

Update: Store is unofficially open (door is open & displays & gallery are up, but they're installing some fixtures & office equipment). They sold a Noctilux yesterday, so they're living large.

I plan on picking up a hand grip for my X1 when I go Saturday, maybe they'll let me take some shots of the new digs...

I stopped in on Sat. and they were nice and let me play with a Noctilux and a 21. It was nice to see some stock on lenses. They also expressed some interest in my V2 28mm and my V1 35 summicron, plus the leica adp that lets you put two lenses back to back I forget the number.

The store is at 977 F street, so Metro center is just is just 3 short blocks away.

Across from the original 930 Club. Wow, has that area changed.

May have to stop by when I visit the offspring. Just to look; it's been ages since I bought anything Leica (and who knows if I will again).

It's a dangerous place. Very pretty displays and galleries and a friendly staff. Although I didn't buy anything there, it got me over my last bit of self-restraint and I ordered an M7 from KEH. No GAS antidote at all.

I'll try to stop in -- but not sure what the point will be. There won't be any favorably priced used gear, I bet.
