M6 at the Fair

These below are from my Leica M6 with Voigtlander 50mm F1.5, which I shot yesterday (1/26/12). Images are from crappy Costco scans, shot on cheap Kodak film. Post processing in Abobe Lightroom.

Many of these delightful slices of life would be more effective if you ease off a bit on the Lightroom and simply let the Leica (and film) speak for itself.

But that is one man's opinion! Carry on with whichever avenues most satisfy you as an artist and person.

I like the look, esp. no. 2, it seems sort of metallic if that makes sense. Perhaps a result of the reduction of contrast and increase of clarity? Imho that image is much better with the adjustments than without.

I agree on both points. Lovely photos, but the PP, for my personal taste, has made them look more like the results of iPhone apps, than Leica + film.

But that's the joy of art, there is no right and wrong, just taste

This sounds like a university (or high school) art student trying to defend poor work.

Not saying the photos in this thread (or the post processing) is "right" or "wrong."

Just that there IS good art and bad art, and real, objective criteria for telling them apart other than "taste."

Without wanting to get into a huge debate on what is valid and invalid art, yes, there is bad art, but there is a lot of well respected, high value art, which is absolutely terrible and incredibly difficult to enjoy by most who view it and requires a 30 minute lecture just have the fainted clue of what on earth the point of it is.

That's where the old "taste" thing comes into it. Given enough objective criteria and you could call a urinal art... oh wait.

I'm sure there is a more appropriate thread to discuss that topic in tho, so back to the art produced by RedLion

This debate has been going on for a very long time.

The photograph which you see is one which has been modified in order to present what the photographer saw or felt.

Even Ansel Adams did this. "Moonrise over Hernandez" was heavily modified in the darkroom from what its original negative would have produced if printed "straight."
