Facebook fan page

Does anyone here have one of these to get your photography out there?
I never did get caught up in the Facebook thing, though many of my colleagues have. A younger friend who is more into social media has suggested that I do this. Trying to gather information on this.

I do, and I have 443 fans! I have sold sell prints to them many times, so it is worth the effort.

I'm not the biggest Facebooker around, but have put many, many of my pictures on my wall, which is open to the public to view (the picture part that is). I also belong to several photo-related groups where I post my photos. The Rollei group in particular is quite good. A lot of discussion about photography and some good honest criticism about the photos people submit. Others are using Facebook to promote and sell their photos. You can take Facebook as far as you want.

Working hard on mine, another shameless plug:

Was just going to put a shameless facebook fan page plug on RFF, but decided to search first. Guess I will put it here to keep things organized and not be TOO spammy

https://www.facebook.com/tokyoshots

I plan to post almost everyday, and try to get a lot of followers. I have also been shooting scenery and activities in the Tsunami hit region of Japan (still waiting for the store to develop), and will try to promote some of my friends social volunteer efforts there. So while it's called Tokyo shots, it will also feature a lot of stuff Tohoku and elsewhere in Japan in the future.

PS
Nice page Chriss, you should post more photos! I will become a fan!

And SciAggie, looks like you stopped using it?

Would be interesting to see facebook pages of members.

Here are three things holding me back from creating one:

1. The fact that presumably not a lot of people would like it.

2. My mothers tounge isn't english, so unsure weather to write in native language or english (having three norwegian followers and writing in english seem useless).

3. Don't like posting pictures too facebook so there wouldn't really be any content on page. Only links and brief info (and maybe some updates now and again).

Before you join Facebook, Frank, I suggest you read the small-print and check what happens to the rights on your pictures ...

Yes, because we are all going to be world famous, and then the multi-billion company Facebook will risk their reputation squeezing those HUNDREDS of dollars from us.

Or they will pick our grainy street photography pictures of homeless people and stone walls to promote how much fun the social media network is!

Hah, I see your point but in my case its more the fact that I find that alot of people on facebook tend to borrow/use pictures as they please. Don't worry to much about the policy, really.

if you post small files, a good "print" can't be stolen ...

It depends. In the past I posted a picture that featured a friend. Made for web. He posted it at his profile picture. Then a large chain posted this picture on their website (to show people they sponsor). It's not a big deal, but people still can copy and use the pictures for online situations.

As you say, they can't really print them though.

I'll probably end uploading some photos. I can't see how someone would download them. After all, even Leonard Freeds page has pictures on it.

I've got a whopping 15 likes! I must be a photographic genius...

I'm terrible at self-promoting on facebook (I feel like a salesman). Besides my crap photography, this probably contributes to my low number of "likes".
