M3 shutter curtain question

Hi!

Recently I got a M3 SS in good condition, all shutter speeds seems to be correct (no shots developed yet though).

But one thing bothers me a bit: After I trip the shutter, I can see the metal "lip" of the shutter in the left corner of the shutter frame. It's about 2.5 mm.
My M6 classic hides the lip completely, so I was a bit cofused and measured the shutter frame. The M3's is 2 mm larger

Is there something wrong with my lovely M3?
And let's say the shots will come out ok, can I use it the way it is (assuming, the metal lip - where both curtains overlap - should hide completely?).

thanks in advance!

There is nothing wrong with that, it's normal. You'll notice that on the higher speeds (1/1000 sec) the lip will be slightly "deeper" into the shutter frame than on the low speeds.

thats a relief! thank you for your fast response!

So is the M6s smaller shutter frame the reason why I can't see the lip?
Because my M6 works perfectly for many years

I don't know, maybe the configuration of the M6 shutter is different. The curtains are certainly different. The brake-system has also influence on the position of the curtains after the release.

I've seen this numerous times on early M's and have found when properly lubed and timed that the edge is then not visible. The area between the main drum and brake on an M3 I had was dry and displayed this behaviour. I put a minute amount of lube between these parts and the first curtain then travelled further thereby allowing the second curtain to do the same, hiding that bar.
