Hood for Yashica Electro 35 CC

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a low-profile (preferably metal) hood for a CC that does not block the viewfinder significantly.

I had the same question for a Yashica GX. Look on eBay for seller shamino123. He has a 52mm vented slanted lens hood that is minimally obstructive to the rangefinder on the GX.

He has them for sale now. Search on eBay for "52mm lens hood vented" in Cameras and Photo.

This item is high quality: nicely made and well finished. It doesn't vignette on the 40mm GX lens. Don't know about the 35mm lens on a CC/CCN.

Different option: eBay seller dslrbaby has a stack of "hoods" which are step-up rings with a little depth. Each makes a nice lens hood. The 52mm one works OK on GX, the 55mm works OK as a hood on GT/GSN/GTN. The item title is "Adjustable Screw mount lens hood 52-77mm" -- I find these quite handy.

Heavystar.com and on ebay (on vacation til end of June) is where I purchased all my metal hoods for my Yashica's. About $7 per. No vignetting.

Heavystar has great products... but I wanted a vented slanted hood in 52mm, and he didn't have one last I looked.

EDIT: I was looking at shamino123's eBay store and noticed a Nikon HN-3 hood for sale. Any experience with this particular hood for a Yashica CC? Specifically, whether it would cause vignetting or block the viewfinder significantly. Thanks again.

I got the S&W 52mm Wide Angle from heavystars, and it is perfect for the CC/GX. It's short, so it doesn't vignette, and it comes with a cap, so you can just stuff it back in the bag without removing the hood, and it saves on battery drain. It has a little loop for putting a retainer on it, but I use it as a reminder that the hood is still on when I look through the viewfinder. Just set it at 2 0'clock, and you'll never have a blank frame again. I also got one for the GL, and am very happy with both.

A lens cap, on a CC? The entire Yashica 35 series activates its meter only when you half-press the release - other than contemporary electromechanical match or lock needle mechanisms (which often inherited a permanently active meter only "switched off" by means of a lens cap from their selenium predecessors), the Yashicas were pioneers of the electronic shutter genre with way too much current draw to make do without a regular release-activated switch. On a Yashica, capping the lens will not reduce battery drain if the meter is activated - on the contrary, it will light up the underexposure warning, which may suck the battery dry within minutes.

So, there's another thing I forgot about the Yashicas. Man, getting old is the pits. And I've got too many cameras to keep straight which one does what.

ps: The Yashica ME needs a cap to shut off the meter circuit, as it is a mechanical twin to the Minolta Hi-Matic G. But then, it's not an Electro.

Something I forgot to mention about the S&W Wide Angle 52mm and 55mm hoods from Heavystars, is that they match the 18mm depth profile of the OEM hoods. Can't get much better than that.

farlymac, "S&W" is the brand name, right, from the excellent seller heavstar? I assume is a straight hood, right?

I'm curious what the original Yashica lens hood for the GX/CC looked like. I assume it was a straight-ahead hood similar to the one for the GSN/GTN.

I like the slanted, vented hood on my GX. It much less intrusive in the viewfinder than a straight-ahead hood. And, I think it looks quite cool. I found these only with shamino123 -- No vignetting on the 40mm GX lens. Would it work OK with the wider CC/CCN? I don't know.

This would be perfect for the wider lens on the CC. That tilted vented hood you have is a good one too, but mostly for a non-wide angle lens, as it's kind of deep. It's one of the ones Heavystars does not carry in the 52mm size. But between he and shamino123, they have just about everything covered. I have the S&W 55mm WA hood on my GL, and it is just right. Also got the 46mm straight vented hood for my ME, and all the other compacts I have that take the same filter size. And I like the caps that come with them.

Got my GX from Frontman also. Sweet camera. I can see why they are so highly thought of.
