Lens Hood for the 28mm Type-1 Elmarit?

I know the correct hood can be had, but can anyone recommend a reasonably priced alternative? I understand the lens is a bit sensitive to stray light.

Is this the first version Elmarit lens? Did you find one? Are you using it with a metered body?

I've not received it yet. I bought it not knowing it was a type-1. It'll go on the MP, I don't think it'll meter (I might be wrong about that- I've not seen any mention specific to the MP). It comes with a finder and the lens is "in the box.". The seller told me "made in Canada," and I thought that meant type-II, and didn't realize that metering cameras won't work with it. Ah, well. I just hope it's not a coke bottle bottom.

Thanks for the recommendation on Kevin. I don't want to pay a lots for a lens I might well not keep.

I don't have the Sartorious book with me, but once at home I'll check it out. Do you happen to know the filter size?

BTW, I have the impression that all Elmarits were Canadian, except the very first one. If this is the first Canadian... your MP will work with it.

I believe it's a 49mm filter size.
This is the first one, and it was too made in Canada. This is according to the serial number (and the box says "made in Canada") as well as "confirmed" by Mr. Gandy's site, which says reports of lenses made in Canada don't mean they aren't type I's.

I looked this lens up in Sartorius during my lunch break. The filter size is listed as 48mm (actually, the third version, which I have, has a 49mm filter and the latest goes down to 46mm) and the hood's code number is 12501.

Your lens (which is the first one produced in Canada) should be the second version of this lens. The first was produced in Wetzlar, and the protruding rear element blocked the meter reading off the white spot on the curtains.

Again... consult with Kevin. He may be able to recommend an alternate hood. In any case, you may want to keep this lens. I just got back my first 28mm slides and the reach of these babies is... nicely large!

Of course, it's a wide-angle, duh!

Thanks for the info! If it blocks the light meter, it won't be as useful to me.
I did promise the buyer that I'd take picture with it- at least enough for him to see.
We'll see.

Oh! I did talk with Kevin- he says a hood is 1-2 hundred dollars (yes, for a hood). We'll see.

Ladies and Gentlemen!

Please allow me to introduce, the Type-1 Elmarit Candian! (Take off, eh?)
Comes in the original box, with the right finder, caps, and so forth!

Takes about two stops off the meter, though... I'll take some pictures with it. We'll see. Perhaps I got the best out of all of 'em? The infinity latch is pretty cool. Red dot is still there. Looks almost un-used.
