Question Princelle book on FSU cameras ?

Hi there !

Does anybody here own this book ? I've always found this one said to be the ultimate 'bible' for FSU equipment users and collectors, but unfortunately the first edition is out of print since long time ago.

So when the second one was announced, I quickly ordered it from Amazon, however, near TWO years have passed and the edition is continuosly delayed, again and again and a g a i n a n d ...

I don't know what's more funny, if reading that 'You purchased this item on January 10, 2003' or the 'This item will be released on July 1, 2004'

Amazon Canada lists the original as available. They could of course be somewhat less than realistic

Well according to the Aztec calendar the world will end on 2012, so hope they will advance the new edition a bit

DWpayne, I remember the same on Amazon.com, then I ordered the book, and after some days I received a mail apologizing for their mistake. When I went back to the website there was a 'This item is no longer available'

Although I am not the owner of a FSU camera, this looks like an interesting book.

Good gear head info if nothing else.

I have the first edition, its a very interesting book. some of the translation from the french original leaves a little to be desired, but understandable. I wish it had been printed on better quality paper and had a more durable binding, but then it would have cost a lot more!

Princelle 2nd edition

I have also been trying to get this book for almost a year now. Very frustrating!! My local bookseller(who has been excellent for finding obscure titles for me) has been of little help. Today I finally got them to try calling "the publisher"--some question about who this really is--the phone number is disconnected. I called the Borders Books and Music store that's close to me and they said the publication date is tomorrow--Sept 30-- but they could order it and they will have it in seven days. I wish I could call M Princelle directly and ask him for a copy! I will post any news about this as I get real info.

My local bookshop just phoned me with the news that they finally heard back from the UK publisher. The book has just been printed now we just have to get one to the states for me. Supposedly that will take "another week or two" I'll believe it when I see one!

Ha,
Amazon loves to do this with camera books. When the "Nikon Compendium 2" was first announced, I pre-ordered it. When it didn't arrive in 3 months I called thier customer service and was told by someone who obviously didn't speak English/American that they didn't know when it would be out.
Finally emailed Hove in England and found THEY hadn't even started printing it yet. After a year it finally came out, with no notice from Amazon.
I can remember when all they sold was books and branched out to CD's. Came across to me from Seattle overnight. Now it takes 10-14 days and it's all "out-sourced".
Rant over ~ ; - )

Hi all,
another updatlette: my local book store has ordered directly from the publisher(seemingly a company called Newpro UK ltd). Mandolin Winds(my local bookstore) has given up on their usual whole sale sources. They contacted the publisher directly--it took about three weeks to get any response--tried their wholesalers again after the Newpro people said yes the book has been released, no luck so Mando ordered from newpro. No telling how long this will take.
What the heck, I've only benn trying for a year now so far I should have asked my bookstore to order two. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see how badly that would screw things up. Not much worse than they are now I'm thinking. Maybe there is a shortage of vellum and gold leaf? Or all the monks in the scriptorium have gone off to the crusades?

Angry more BS about the princelle book

Another BS meter reading about the Princelle book: Today I talked to the guy who has been tasked with getting me this book for me. He said that he had e-mailed the Publisher and the latest excuse is that they(Newpro UK) don't have sales rights in the US but will by January. Because There might be minors around, I won't say exactly what my response was to that one. Not directed to my local guy. I did, however, get the email address and the phone # which I am putting in this post. Maybe if a binch of us from here write and/or call it would put a fire under them and get them to release the dern thing! The email is: sales@newprouk.co.uk
I'm not sure how UK phone numbers are spaced and I think this number includes the country code for dialing from the US so if any of the members from the UK can correct me, please do so. The phone #:
01 36 72 42 411
sales@newprouk.co.uk 01 36 72 42 411
Maybe I should just look for one of the expensive first editions

In fact I've already given up. It's preordered from Amazon since who know when...

I'm even tempted to order the original French edition here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...155031-1771864

and get some French classes, however I'm sure that even if they say 2-3 days, they will soon apologize for not having it published yet

H* from your experience I guess probably the best option is to cancel the order from Amazon. A pity, I ordered it when a discount was available and the final price would be around $25...

This is probably going to be the thread with more s ever !

Instead of Amazon, try these guys:

US: http://www.camerabooks.com/
UK: http://www.peterloy.com/

They both claim to have it in stock.

Sure, any time. I just ordered one from the US location, and they claim it's "in the mail". We'll see.

I have ordered from camerabooks.com and they are not cheap, but they are reliable. If she says it's in the mail, then I'm sure it is.

I've received email confirmation that my order is also "in the mail". It would be nice to get it Saturday but I suppose it'll be Monday or Tuesday. I ordered just about 10:15 AM and that left only two more copies of Princelle's book in stock.

As I said in the Russian camera forum mailing list, they're gonna wonder about the sudden run on what's probably a fairly obscure book

My reading of this book's page on amazon.com is that it is available, you just have to wait a couple of weeks for it to come from England. Price is $34.95 with free shipping.

Yup, but I wonder if they would do the same as always, keep you waiting for 6 weeks and then send you a 'sorry, currently we can't get this book'

They've been doing that with me for at least 1 year now... Oth I got almost inmediate reply from Petra at Camerabooks, yes it's true that they are not cheap but...

Anyway seems some Singapore gentleman ordered the last copy before me, hey c'mon, show me your RFaholic face !
