This is novel ... considering how few of the waiting throng have actually got cameras yet!

Now if they can just upgrade the supply problem!

When you scroll down the tree in dpreview you find that the guy who brought the 'problem' to the attention to fuji has this to say: "Basically there are serious inaccuracies in the focus bar and they way it behaves in different modes + the DOF display. I spent about half an hour on the phone with a technician at fuji Uk explaining it to him while he had an X100 in his hands and could reproduce all the faults that I was finding. they immediately emailed the results to fuji japan who look like they are resolving the issues. I'm impressed". When you go further down the tree he says he also mentioned the ISO menu issues but doesn't know whether it will be resolved in this update.

Again, some of these "fixes" are so obvious that they should have been corrected before the camera was released.

For Fuji to spend so much time on the design and marketing of the camera and then push it out the door incomplete is frustrating. I was going to say inexcusable, but this is the norm for the computer industry. Still, for a camera at this price point, there should have been more testing.

It can't be a surprise that this camera was rushed to market. There was such a feeding frenzy, that Fujifilm would have been equally criticized for a long development time and their marketing people are smart enough to strike before the interest subsides, or the next equipment frenzy takes over. I waited to place my order in the hopes that some of this would be resolved, but the smart folks are waiting another few months.

I'm glad to hear that new firmware is in the pipeline. After playing with the camera for about an hour I've uncovered a few bugs that make it incredibly frustrating to use in manual mode.

- The histogram does not respond to changes in exposure in manual mode (both in evf and ovf). It only responds to adjustments made using the exposure compensation dial, and even then it is often incorrect, especially in ovf.
- The shutter speed often "gets stuck" and does not respond to changes in shutter speed when in manual mode. For example, the shutter speed dial will say 250, but the camera thinks it is on 60 and takes the photo using 60. This happens both with evf and ovf.

Basically, I want to set the ISO at 400, use the ovf with manual controls, and have the camera respond quickly and correctly to changes in aperture and shutter speed. I don't care about changing ISO easily, macro modes, auto-ISO, ND filters, movie modes, raw or jpg settings, etc.

These complaints aside, it really is a nice little camera. It is just frustrating to have so many problems that could have easily been fixed had Fuji spent a little more time on the details.

Edit: A little more testing reveals that descending through shutter speeds works fine. For example, I can go 4000, 2000, 1000, 500, 250, 125, 60, 30, 15, ... just fine. But on the way back up, the camera responds with 15, 30, 60, 60, 60, 60, 1000, 2000, 4000. So the camera gets stuck and 60 and comes back to life at 1000. Can anyone else confirm this behavior, or maybe I have a broken camera?

The histogram issues have been pointed out by other users on this forum, but I haven't seen anyone mention the flaky shutter speed dial. I'm anxious to hear from other owners if their cameras have this problem.

No doubt. Hopefully the problems won't be so severe as to force the company to do what Leica ran into with botched release of the M8.
