As far as the Leica M Monochrom, I can't understand why they bundle SFX as it is designed to work with colour files, perhaps someone could enlighten us on this.
Re SFX and monochrome images, I use it all the time to post process my B&W scans. It's good for contrast adjustments, "dodging and burning", pulling out bits of detail, split-toning, etc.

Matter of fact, I have a video about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM8MhbzsVxo

Note that I'm not claiming any special knowledge or even photography skill, but this is how I use it.

There is a lot of life left in the RD-1S!

Interesting you should make that comparison because the same thought crossed my mind. Obviously the under sensored Epson can't produce files that will take to much enlargement and computer monitors are lying toads and don't tell the real story ... but!!!!!

The sensor, as small and antiquated as it is, produces tonal gradation that I don't see from my all singing all dancing D700!

Keith, you commented once that you were inspired by my b&w on the R-D1.

I think the tables have turned!

Thanks dude ... that's a real compliment because you were the person that showed me the camera's potential for black and white.

(tips hat!)
