Pentax me battery problems

Hello, I recently bought a Pentax ME along with a couple lenses, it quickly became my favorite camera over my canon and praktica slrs because it's so small but sturdy. But I'm having trouble getting it to work properly. I know it relies on a battery for the meter and shutter so I replaced them with energizer 357s that are supposed to replace lr44s and it still only fires at the default speed and no meter. Any help fixing my problem would be really appreciated because I don't want to just throw it to the side of I can help it.

Has it been working correctly for you? Are the battery holder contacts clean? Are the cells in the holder the right way round - negative to the cap?

If you are up for it, it is sometimes worthwhile to pull off the bottom plate. You can see either broken-off wires or corrosion. Sometimes....

Everything mechanical is working good. It's something electrical I think. The contacts look perfect. I pulled the bottom plate last night and everything looks good. I'm going to see what else I can find.

Update. I had the batteries in backwards. That's embarrassing.

I guess you need to update the thread title to "ME problems".

You aren't the first and you won't be the last.
