Heads up, serious Nikonians ... rare 6mm fisheye on Craigslist
I am not affiliated in any way with this seller, but i think that this may be a bargain for the serious collector:

Also on eBay and fredmiranda, so it's not like the seller isn't trying. It's local pickup and cash only, but with some of the recent prices ive seen you'd think it would be worthwhile for an American buyer to buy a plane ticket and pick it up

Useless lens in the real world unless you want to take photos of the back of your own head.
Thanks for the tip but I'll pass on this one.

Oh, but think of the conversations you would have at your parties with that glass mushroom sitting in your display case.

Whoa ... It actually exists in the hands of people willing to sell it ...
How much do they usually go for? This is a bargain in comparison ...

$8000 is less than 10% of the full price.
I could buy a ticket and get it.

If I knew more about them and had some kind of buyer in mind I'd get a ticket to jersey in a second.

Shoot, Raid, if I had that kind of cash, I'd have been on the road two days ago.

I am guessing for any of us acting now would be too late. Enough rich people around to act fast and snatch up such a deal. D:

Nikon made two versions, this is the f5.6 but it is the f2.8 with the really high price tag.

Good point. Is $8000 then a good asking price?

Good reading, thanks. Exactly why I didn't buy it and jump on a plane

I would first consult with some people who I view as experts in the field. Then, and after thinking through it all, then only would I pick up the phone or send an email about it.

I remember someone like this on NHS.
It's still all about you, huh?
In the 'real world', where open-minded people exist, lenses like these are also used for scientific imaging.

So you hide it so no one see it?

I don't hide it or display it.
Sits in bags until I take it out to shoot with.

I thought it looked a little small. That 2.8 is the monster. Still, I'd love to have one. And you can't carry every piece of gear with you everywhere, so it would be spending downtime in a display.

Seller shows the finder with the lens, so that's a good thing. And it's the original finder because it has that F2 shoe mount. I wonder if folks are put off because of the modification of a mount for Leica CL description. Maybe they don't read beyond that, and don't know the lens itself was not modified.

I used the 2.8 version decades ago courtesy of Nikon Professional Services. Took it underwater in an Ocean-Eye housing and got some nice images. But it IS a specialty lens and had no remorse when I shipped it back. (Correction: I used the 8mm Nikon fisheye, not the 6mm. Brain fart, sorry.)
