Autocord CLA in the US

Is there anyone in the US who offers similar quality and prices as Karl Bryan?

He is backlogged and not taking any work right now.

No one else comes to mind as offering comparable service at a comparable price. I can't think of anyone in or out of the U.S. who has more know-how and experience with Autocords, at any price.

Interesting, he overhauled my Autocord a couple of weeks ago, completed it the same day he received it. I guess that people must getting their cameras ready for summer. If you can wait, he's worth it. Why not check back in a few days and see if the situation has changed.

In my experience he doesn't like to have other people's cameras taking up space in his premises, which is why (besides being fast and efficient) he typically turns a job around in a day or a few days at most. Fast throughput. That said, I'm guessing that his idea of being "backlogged" may mean a relatively short queue, or that he's clearing the decks to go on vacation. Just speculating, as camera repair is not his day job; his approach seems more like community service and/or a labor of love. I doubt he is willing to run backlogs like those of DAG or Fleenor, who depend on their repair work for a living.

If you can wait it may be worth communicating with Karl and perhaps scheduling a date when you can send your camera to him. He serviced my Autocord in the winter, with as you can expect, very excellent result and my high level of satisfaction. If the camera is just going to be sitting on another repair person's bench and be completed int he same time, maybe you will find Karl worth waiting for.

I recently sent him my Ricoh Diacord on a Saturday and had it back in A+ condition by the following Wednesday. The communication, quality of work and price are the best I have ever experienced with any CLA on any camera. If he is busy, it's definitely worth getting on a waiting list.

He clued me in to Diacords and to the scarce and incomparable Ricohmatic 225. Although known as an Autocord repair guru, he has many fine things to say about the optics and design of later Ricoh TLRs.
